i just don't see roth getting much pt in the big ten season. he'll get some minutes early in the year when the staff if trying to figure out what they have as a team. but save for a few last-second-we-need-a-big-three type situations, i don't see him playing a whole lot.

he's not the highest rated incoming freshman, but when it's all said and done, i think he may just be the most important. if he doesn't go pro after college, i imagine he will work in pr because he's always saying the right things!

agreed. if there is such a thing as losing according to the hoosiers, this would be it. losing a game that all agreed you would get blown out in and nearly getting the upset. if we have to lose, making it difficult for the big ten champs is the way to do it.

if only we had hired ctc two years earlier...

i wonder what prompted that comment. it's not like this was a heated game. there were no fights, no stare-downs, no handshakes ignored. since mr. klee didn't feel the need to put the quote into a context - he just kind of threw it out there - i can't help but think that someone might have baited keller in to it.

with that said, change one word -indiana to illinois - and i completely agree

that article was disappointing. he gave a very one-sided argument. there was no mention of the fact that the "major" tag was questionable at best. we have been making the exact opposite argument of his - that iu was being picked on by the ncaa and myles brand.

i thought that the article was a classic example of someone with a national readership taking advantage of the fact that most, if not all, of the readers outside of indiana don't know the specifics of the circumstances well enough to call him out on his half-truths and partial facts.

if he really wanted to make the case of major programs getting away with major violations he would have talked about usc (reggie bush and oj mayo) and florida state (60 "student-athletes cheating through an online course of all things).

his point that major programs should get the same treatment as small programs as small schools is admirable, but his examples are disappointing. a simple google search reveals that texas southern got busted for paying student-athletes and playing a player under a different name because they were ineligible to play under their own. that's a bit worse than making impermissible phone calls. st. augustine college was busted for playing 29 ineligible student-athletes over a four year span. again, more serious than impermissible phone calls. again, the point wetzel is trying to make is admirable, but he needs to come up with better examples before he publishes his accusations of unfair treatment.

i, as well, hate the phrase "at least they played hard." but after last year, this phrase has new meaning. after watching a team that had final 4 talent go "up in smoke" and look like they were giving up, it's really is nice to be able to say, "at least they played hard."

thank god. while no one thought that iu deserved even more penalties, i was pretty sure that the ncaa would take advantage of the opportunity to finish picking on iu. fortunately they didn't. after watching the games yesterday and today we have definitely been punished enough.

i'm excited to finally close this book and move on!

i turned off the streaming feed after about ten minutes. totally unwatchable.

this year is going to be rough, no doubt about it. i'm won't judge this year on wins/losses. as long as they show continual progress, i'll be satisfied. if they do progress steadily, i wouldn't be surprised if they play a role in bursting someone's tourney bubble.

it's amazing how the comments differ here vs. the hoosier scoop. i thought the obvious choice was de carolis, but from what the bio's say, i'm confident that mr glass has the experience to be able to get the work done. he hasn't been an ad, but he knows how to keep sports facilities profitable.

why reinvent the wheel. use the same rules as baseball. i know it's not just up to the ncaa, i know that the players union has a large say, but the mlbpa doesn't have a problem with it. shouldn't that carry some bargaining weight for the league to use against the union? one and dones will severely change the college game if allowed to continue. get rid of it.

judging by his picture, i would venture to guess that he just loves life and he's comfortable/confident with who he is. so many guys have that "i'm tough, don't mess with me" look on their face. if his smile and his attitude on the court are any indication of his attitude off the court, he could be just as valuable in the locker room as on the court.

as just about everyone else has already said, just let him go. this isn't the team/coach that he committed to anymore. the only school i would even consider blocking would be detroit mercy.

i tend to think that the ncaa will be nice to us. reasons:
a) we sacrificed our coach and our season already. we may as well have given ourselves a post season ban last year because, let's face it, we didn't really show up for the first round.

b) we have restricted our head coach with the amount of contact he can have with recruits already.

c) we have a new coach who is saying (and doing) all the right things about running a clean program for the sake of the program. program comes first, wins come second.

d) we have turned over our entire roster. (we still have the two troublemakers in fink and taber, but now that their buddies are gone, the will be forced to go to class and behave).

adding penalties to this program seems like overkill to me. the mess has already been cleaned up. there is no point it making it worse then it already will be. if they are really desperate to punish someone, why don't they go down to tallahassee or socal. there's definitely more to find there.

i trust coach crean, but i am VERY uncomfortable bringing in someone who is so closely associated with sampson.

i have no problem with judging him by his association with ks. ks wreaked some much havoc on the iu program that anything related to him should be considered a cancer. it's not a double standard. iu will be synonymous with ks for quite a while. he will be talked about, along with the damage he did, for years to come. as many years as he set us back, i don't want to have anything to do with him.

a. i'll look at their resume, but if it only says high school, it gets weeded out.

b. it's not solely their age at all. i specifically said that it was because of their experience. it just so happens that because they are young, they don't happen to have that experience. it is my right as an employer to require a certain amount of experience.

you are right in that the union has a certain amount of power in whether or not this happens, but the fact of the matter is that the nba does have the right to require a certain amount of experience outside of high school.

You may turn down people every day, but if you did it:
A. before interviewing them or even seeing their resume
B. solely on the basis of their age (after they are emancipated adults), you might be in a little legal trouble

I think the answer is the union and the CBA, not the employer's right to hire/fire....
