Good article, I've been annoyed at that statement for years. I also wondered if people answer that because they are comfortable in their social box. If by answering the question with some substance people will then require more information but we are all 'too tired' to establish another relationship. Oh what a world.

3) I consider this question in a simple way (which I still haven't figured out) and it goes something like this: What is your happy?

Now defining happy can only be done by the individual using variables like the ones you mentioned above but I also include this scenario in answering it:

"Envision this: Next Monday when you walk through your office door, you have an unexpected guest...Jesus is waiting in your office and asks for a tour. After you recover from the shock, He looks at your calendar, then your company's books. You show Him around your entire operation. He meets everyone and sees everything.

After the tour, Jesus relaxes in your office, smiles, and says, "What an operation! When I gave you this opportunity, I knew you'd handle it, well. But, I want to know more details about how you're leading My company to further My Kingdom. My desire as the Owner is that you lead this company to profitability through excellence AND intentionally use it for building My Kingdom."

Q: What tangible evidence would show Jesus you understand His purposes and are seeking to accomplish them at work? Hard question, eh?

For years, I unconsciously kept my business life and Christian life separate and never considered using business as a way to do ministry. That has slowly started to change. And by trying to do this each day, it move the needle 1% at a time towards my place of happy. That may mean prayer before group lunches, sharing my faith during a company outing, or just holding to high ethical standards but I believe every little bit helps.

Sorry for the lengthy comment. Just one perspective!

LogMeIn from the iPhone is pretty awesome on either a wifi or 3G connection. It does cost, but worth it and does Mac and PC.

Thanks for the comment John. I would say that I do believe business, regardless of life-style of high-growth, are always in a state of growing or shrinking and with that said, things evolve or die.

It's the rare organization that can keep a consistent long term life-style business but those that do, I'm betting are the happiest people on the planet.

Hey Tyler,

Well looky there, now you guys are getting into my world. ;) I totally agree that the traditional model of auditing once a year (milestones) is broken. We have shifted our perspective in this and moved to what we call "continuous compliance". Instead of this one point in time mentality we instead work to ingrain compliance in everyday processes and distribute the workload across the year. Lastly, we've big fans of what the collaboration tools do to enable this type of process and see them going hand in hand.
