in Glaring differences between Denver and St. Paul on The New Mexico Independent
Well Tracy was definitely not the only one thinking that last night. I was sitting at a bar with a diverse array of people lining it and watching the RNC convention. I made a mention to my friend beside me that was similar to what Tracy is saying, "Where are all the people of color." My observation soon turned into a conversation along the bar and everyone agreed that we weren't seeing many people of color in the audience. I guess all these random strangers at the bar are bigots too and not making an obvious observation. With many throughout the nation watching this convention, you would think they would try to appeal more to minorities and show that they have their support in the convention audience, seeing that they're a large voting base.

in N.M. History 101 on The New Mexico Independent
I can definitely say that I would have loved to have a NM history class when I went to school in NM. Not only would it have benefited me much today, but also it would have been a more interesting subject to learn as you can take field trips to noted areas in the book and be able to relate more to the happenings in the book. Hopefully the book goes through.

in Clean water under attack on The New Mexico Independent
I would say even with them taking steps, it's not enough. Especially in regards to the many out of state threats who want to come in here and drill for oil or uranium near potable and regularly used water sources just for the sake of them making profits. There's also situations up near Veguita, where outside companies are trying to come up and be the middle man to supply the northern part of our state with the water for them uphold their part of the deal in regards to the Rio Grande Compact. I appreciate the efforts that the Env. Dept. is taking, yet special interests and their influence also need to be taken into account.

in West Siders beware on The New Mexico Independent
I grew up in Hobbs, NM which has tons of oil drilling going on there. I don't know of any studies, but I personally know many people there who have detrimental health ailments, which are pretty obviously related to the oil drilling there, and the oil and gas refineries there. It pretty much comes down to which is more valuable, oil or potable water and clean air.

in Fuzzy battle lines over where to drill on The New Mexico Independent
It's funny how Bush acts like they know how much is actually in ANWR, which they don't. It's not worth us going and destroying a much needed wildlife refuge on a hunch that there is tons of oil there. Besides, the only immediate action that would come from this is yet even further lining of oil executives pockets. The sooner America starts focusing more on alternative energy, the better of our country will be.
