in Compare cell phone to pro camera on Scobleizer
This looks like were past the tipping point of thinking that cell phone photography is a gimmick.
Also with the phonecam your more likely to be thinking and looking photographically (if that makes any sense) more often, not worrying about capturing the grand subject, but looking at everyday occurrences in an aesthetic way.
I'd prefer to concentrate on the image, and the thoughts or feelings it might evoke rather than the hardware it took to get there, and you correctly point out that you're not likely to be lugging around a heavy kit of DSLR gear all the time.
If you check most photography forums, you see that people with DSLRs are always asking for suggestions for a "always-carry" compact camera. It's looks like the N82 fits the bill for this purpose. Gotta check it out.

Robert:
Great work! I did a blog post about the possibility of a Nikon D3x based on the new Sony 25mp sensor, then added your photo of Tim shot at ISO 6400 just to show what the D3 can do:

I gave you full credit and linked it back to your Flickr account. Having photos like this, easily available, really adds to the quality of blog posts.

in Tough Times Ahead For The Web? on A VC
I think Web 2.0 is over. Anything really remarkable done because of it? Aren't social media, folksonomies, user-generated content completely played out? It's time to think about a better way:

I got the invite last weekend but didn't bite.
It's simple enough to do a quick Web search to check the cred of this site. And, why would you want to create another inbox to manage?

in couple of quick iPhone thoughts this morning on John's Blog
Do you think Apple could have released a non-phone version with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and had the same success? Is it worth ditching your previous cell phone, and possibly your plan for this all-in-one device?

Cisco is now suing Apple over the iPhone name.
Whatever you think about desirability of iPhone, you have to admit Jobs has pulled off a PR coup making CES seem trivial.

It's really great the Edwards is bringing so much energy and enthusiasm to the start of his campaign. But having to wake up at 2am to be grilled by the Press? That's a pretty tough schedule. I hope he can hold up for the rest of this trip.
Robert, what do you think of the Edwards' Website/blog? There's a lot going on there, but I don't easily see a critical discussion of the important issues. I don't care about photo-ops. His staff should consider having separate sections dedicated to single issue, and then invite those most experienced in or affected by these issues to comment, even those with opposing opinions.

Edwards was asked tonight about gov't funding for embryonic stem cell research, and for those interested I posted a transcript of these comments on my blog: http://billkosloskymd.typepad.com/lexicillin_qd...
He was more careful in stating the promise of this research for providing new therapies, and he did add that funding for medical research was important in the context of global competition. But, "We have got to be on the cutting edge of everything," while reflecting his exuberance, doesn't provide specifics. I hope that in the near future he can show that he has a deeper understanding of the kind of commitment that's needed.

in How to taunt a journalist on Scobleizer
Maybe the readership and/or the listenership should determine would the most important stories should be, and not by the person considered to be the highest on the MSM foodchain.
I don't think the war in Iraq is the biggest wedge issue between the parties. Gov't funding for basic research, specifically embryonic stem cell research, might be.
Edwards blew it in '04 when he said, "If we do the work that we can do in this country, the work that we will do when John Kerry is president, people like Christopher Reeve will get up out of that wheelchair and walk again." Frist responded by describing this comment, "crass" and "shameful" for inviting false hope that an imminent treatment might be available. Now that Edwards has a Web-aware campaign, won't he be held to a higher standard for factchecking his viewpoints? Is his campaign machine set up to respond to the instantaneous concerns and queries the blogosphere might have?
Robert, are YOU going to challenge the Edwards' campaign on any particular issues, or are you just covering the mechanics of the process? When does the conversation start?
Could you find out Edwards' current view on this topic, or whom can I contact? (Sorry for the homework assignment.)

in Avoid politics on my link blog… on Scobleizer
I don't buy it.
On his Web site he has links to Flickr, youtube, myspace, and facebook. He's producing self-serious campaign media for each. It all becomes tedious very fast.
These media didn't achieve virality by supporting slick, packaged messages. They don't work well as push media--not like buying a billboard on the interstate. I think if Edwards tries too hard to capture the Web, he'll be regarded as an opportunistic, and even turn off the people who might be interested in his solutions.
