Why did the producer/creator of the series, both the UK and the USA versions find it necessary to start his potential fiance as one race and then change it in his mind. This could easily have been dismissed if the USA version hadn't repeated the change. I, like Jarrell, wonder if this was something the writers planned on making an issue. Maybe we are giving the writers too much credit. He can fall in love with whomever he wants regardless of sex, color or religion but it's more than a coincidence that they did the same thing in the remake.

Re: The problem is the medium not the characters.

I think you are totally correct. People who read comic books are a dying breed. I think its only going to get worse as the price increases. I remember when I was a younger teenager and was into buying comics, the prices were like 75 cents to $1.50. I understand inflation, but its hard for teens today, who spend their allowances on video games, to spend almost 4 dollars on a comic book. And most of us comic fans who are adults, not including fanboys, can bring ourselves to buy comic books, even though we'll spend 5 dollars on a mocha cafe latte.

Another example is that the people who went to see Hulk and Incredible Hulk were either Ed Norton fans or remembered Bill Bixby as David Banner. Fans of Steven King and Michael Criton movies have probably never read any of their books. I am not talking about fanatics or avid readers, but the mainstream. It's the mainstream consumer market which drives the amount that these movies make. Take the Dark Knight. It's probably going to go down as the most successful, critically acclaimed, widely known comic book movie, and the majority of people who went to see it have probably never picked up the comic book.

Re: Top 10 Comics and Novels for 2008

It must be a loud minority, because I don't know who you are talking about other than the small group of fanboys that wait patiently every week to spend their very last dime on floppies and go home to read them in their mother's basements.

Re: Best of 2008

I agree with Dark Knight, Thor, and the Black Panter Secret Invasion Tie-in. It was just how I remember it. I think the remake is going to be bad simply because the original is a cult classic. You won't see a remake of Evil Dead, or Dog Day Afternoon, or The Rocky Horror Picture Show. If they did, they won't be successful, because you can never capture the magic of the first one. Other than Sam, how do you capture the innocence of Taimak? Who do you cast as Laura Charles, Beyonce? And who's going to capture the insanity of Eddie Arkadian? I just think this movie is set for Fail.

Re: Howard was replaced in Ironman II due to compensation and performance.

Here's what I think. Howard's agent saw an opportunity to cash in on Terrance's newly found mainstream fame. If Marvel wasn't going to offer him a multiple movie contract which anyone who knows about superhero movies, his agent should have insisted on such a contract, then he should have negotiated a right of first refusal contract, or a multiple movie contract with a buyout.
More than likely what happened is that they had a signed deal for more than one movie, with the salary to be negotiated. Since salary is an essential term, if the parties can't agree then there is no contract, and time is usually of the essence. And Terrance is being disingenuous when he says Marvel isn't honoring their contract. If he didn't want to take the offer they made, then its just as much his fault as theirs. Regardless of whether he was bad to work with our not.

Re: Life on Mars: Issue

How do you really feel? All kidding aside, I agree with you about the remake part, and I find the whole show's concept ridiculous. (I do like Eleventh Hour)
But as far as replacing Lisa with Gretchen, it does seem like if this is happening in his mind, he could exert some control over what's happening. If Anne represents something that he wishes for, or maybe a fantasy, or maybe how he thinks of Maya, then the writers of this show have a sick sense of humor or no taste.
What would have had more impact? Make Anne's character a black woman who is essentially the same character as Anne and the love interest part would have more significance because of the time period and could be used to show how far (or how little) things have come in respect to how interracial relationships are perceived.

Re: Star Trek Photos

I'll be the first to say it, looks like Galaxy Quest. The book was just hitting its stride. It seemed to be picking up steam since coming back from that ridiculous "frog" storyline. Its apparent that sales will pick up when the show hits the air? So, why would Marvel do this? Seems like someone at Marvel is trying to kill off the book. Much the same way they got rid of Blade. The Blade movies were some of the more successful comic book movies. But did they turn that into a successful revitalization of the comic book? First they use the book as testing ground for new writers and artists, then they allow a ridiculous story line, now they put a female in the lead role which fanboys have hardly ever been enthusiastic about. It won't take long for T'Challa to come back, but hopefully before they pull the plug.

Re: Iron Man writers think Hulk will be villain in Avenger film

I like the idea of starting with the Hulk as the first obstacle, and then a second movie about an alien invasion.. (See Birds of Prey) Why would anyone want to watch this? Are they going to make them crime fighting Graysons? Why don't they just make another teen drama, and call it something else, because this smacks of marketing BS.
