This leads to friend bloat and tweet overload. I try to stay at around 100 or so followers. That number is manageable for the most part.

Whenever someone starts following me, I check their twitter page via the notification. If they have a website, I also check that out. If they have similar interests, or have similar sensibilities then I add them as a friend to follow. Otherwise, I just leave them be.

Of the 100 people I follow, only about 30-40 tweet daily or semi daily, so I don't get overloaded with information. This really is the way to go. Anyone like iJustine that is following 3000+ people is just doing it as a popularity contest. You might as well follow the public feed. There's just no point.

Re: I am not grieving

This is a good reply to Dave's original post, its just that I fundamentally disagree with you on many of the points. That's not a bad thing, its just that I don't think you're giving Obama his fair chance.

Bush had 8 years to prove how bad of a decision maker he was. He deserves the scathing critiques, low performance ratings and general attitude that history will bestow on him.

http://www.netrootsmass.net/hughs-bush-scandals...

Obama isn't even out of the gate and already you are deriding him. Honestly, where do you get the right to do that? Sure you *believe* that some of his proposals will be bad for the country, but you don't *know* that will be the case. Give him at least a year to screw things up before you go and wish ill-will on his policies and the country he's trying to help.

I don't think that's too much to ask for.

And for the record, I can't remember anyone with as much visibility as Rush Limbaugh ever coming right out and saying "I hope Bush fails". Please point me at such a quote if you can. Thanks.

Re: Customize Leopard with Candybar

"CandyBar Wrappers"! I don't have all the time in the world, but I'll do what I can. This issue is important and I'm right upset. So are all of my co-workers as well. The onerous is on Engadget to get it right despite their own self-imposed pressure. They are at the top of the heap in gadget blogs, so that pressure is of their own making. I wouldn't feel so strongly about it except the so-called "explanation" did nothing to demonstrate that they learned what went wrong. "We messed up, oh well!" just doesn't cut it.

Re: You’re watching my Twitter video

Nice video, but don't forget a sound check for yourself. You can set to tap an avatar, double or triple tap to perform some of the most used actions thereby eliminating one of your 3 taps.

Also, selecting a tweet isn't "arbitrary". There are other things you can do with at tweet once selected such as tap any @username to open their profile instantly, or tap any URL to open a link in the minibrowswer.

Tweetie requires you to move through 2 separate screens to accomplish this same task, where Twitterrific lets you do it right in the timeline.

This same behavior of selecting a tweet lets you copy and paste usernames and links when in peek mode in the posting view. Again, something that was deliberately designed to help you use less time paging around like you do in Tweetie.

No client is perfect, but there are reasons why things work the way they work. Just because you're used to doing things one way doesn't mean they are necessarily the best.

Thanks for listening.

Re: Established iPhone Developer Writes Personal Letter to Steve Jobs

Spencer, yes by all means let's compare the advertising and marketing budgets of major record labels to that of a small, 10 person company who makes icons and a few pieces of software for a living. The sheer notion of this is ridiculous.

I am one of the founding members of the Iconfactory and over our 14+ years in business we've marketed MANY applications. Marketing in traditional media outlets is prohibitively expensive and relatively ineffective. When you are forced to shift the price of your product to .99 and have no profit margin what-so-ever, saying "Make it up in volume" by marketing is a huge gamble.

Some apps that are crap get lucky like iBeer which I consider to be the most "ring tone-y" app in the entire store. It's practically useless and yet there it sits in the top 10 selling thousands of copies a day. So you tell me, should we spend our time, effort and money making the next highly useful utility like Twitterrific for Twitter or spend a few days/weeks making iBeer 2?

Something needs to give.

Re: Is converting to Mac all that difficult?

The choice really isn't difficult at all when you factor your time into the decision. If you're time is worth money, then a Mac is a no brainer. In the over ten years I've been using macs, I can count the hours I've spent reinstalling my OS on one hand. I've never had a virus, never had spyware, never a trojan horse or adware on my Mac. Ever.
I know people who own PC's who re-install Windows at least 3-6 times a year. Read that again. 3-6 times *a year*. Sorry folks, but there is a better way and it's called Macintosh.

Re: Battlestar Galactica Razor

It is definitely one of the best shows on television. It's just too bad, that once again, it's in the incompetent hands of those airheads at the Sci-Fi channel. Galactica is yet another show they are killing with their utterly stupid broadcast schedule as well as NBC's selfish "NO ITUNES!" policy.
I just finished watching Razor and it was pretty good. Galactica isn't good enough to be kept waiting for almost a year between seasons.

Re: Cell phones don’t pop popcorn

Turns out the videos were part of a viral marketing campaign for a blue tooth headset.
