Rondo's intent was to keep Miller from making the game-winning shot at all costs. That includes smacking Miller in the mouth. I'm with E that the Bulls deserved a better call. I see where Howard's elbow could be considered more severe, but Rondo and the Celtics got off too easy for that foul.

His football book The Blind Side was pretty good, too. In fact, Michael Oher should send Lewis a check because he'll be a first-round pick based on the reputation Lewis built up for him through that novel. Count me as someone eagerly awaiting the next book -- he's a fantastic writer.

Lol, that was hilarious. Thome did wind up tied for 4th in the AL with 34, but I think that's more a commentary on how weak the rest of the League was. Then again, by picking Thome at this state in his career, I was making a similar commentary. At least Quentin was running away with it until he got hurt.

The Nats have a better chance of making the playoffs than this deal going through. And I highly doubt anyone would take Jones, even if the Dodgers were to agree to pay off his contract. I think the best way to handle Andruw is to bench him for the rest of the season while they try and make the playoffs (otherwise he's hurting them too much if he's in the lineup). Then let him start fresh next year and hope he produces right off the bat. Give him about a month. If he stinks, then just eat the contract and bench him again.

You know, I'm really scratching my head on this one why the Braves didn't want Matthews' contract in return. Seemed like a bargain.

As for the Angels future, they could look to Kendry Morales internally ... or there are some real gang busters becoming free agents in the offseason -- Jason Giambi (club option at $22 mil), Richie Sexson, Sean Casey, Carlos Delgado (club option at $16mil) ... and a few other yawners.

Looking back on things now, I would make a few changes to this list. First, I would move the Kazmir trade higher on the list since he's become one of the best pitchers in the league. The Indians trade also goes much higher because Cliff Lee is the AL Cy Young winner now, and Grady's possibly a Top 10 player in the game. Those might be up to two and three now. The Bonderman trade looks worse now after seeing what Carlos Pena can do. And isn't it funny that Brandon Lyon, who brought Schilling to Arizona, is now back and closing for Arizona.

If he did make the team, which he probably had about a 30% shot to as a special teamer, I think he would get a ton of attention every time he stepped on the field. Think about how much the media loves these stories -- they'd eat it up. I agree about him signing the contract, but I think he would have a lot of value to them as a recruiter playing in the NFL.

I know he signed the big extension with the Penguins this off-season, but I didn't know they were offering him that much in Russia. I just saw some of the reports. Malkin's agent said they never got a contract offer from a Russian team, but there was "talk" that some Russian teams would offer that much. He must really not have wanted to go back to Russia if they were offering double the amount he could get here

Believe me, JS, Samadzija only reminds me of how incompetent the UCLA coaching staff was under Dorrell. You're exactly right -- they completely changed their gameplan that was working for 58 minutes and switched it for the last two. It will be interesting to see how he does as a starter in the majors.

For some of the mid-level players who have a chance to make a lot more money, it makes a lot of sense. I'm not sure a Russian team could have offered Malkin more than the Pens though because they're paying him a good amount of $$
