I then added my own page. Not sure about the ukraine thing...

-kpaul

Re: Hyperlocal Websites will Boom in 2009 as Community Newspapers Fold

I've been running a few for almost four years now. One has REALLY taken off

http://www.andersonfreepress.net

We have a very active community of posters. Since the newspaper closed their public forums on new years eve, I've seen yet another wave of disgruntled citizens coming to my site.

2009 IS the year...

K. I'm deciding whether or not to continue with that, though. With no start-up money, it's been hard doing everything on my own. I really, really need a good salesperson...
-kpaul

Re: Microsoft Sent An Acer Ferrari Laptop With Windows Vista

I've also kinda been following this Nikon D80 campaign with more than a little interest. ;)

-kpaul

Re: Google News Norway removes thumbnails

Heh. As a small, independent new media publisher, I was *more than* happy that Google News picked up my site (and that they include my pics as thumbnails...) They're doing a lot better job, imho, than the Newspaper owned Topix.net.

-kpaul

Re: MWW and Nikon get it

heh. i'm on the list too. i might try to compile a complete list later tonight. i hear there's a flickr group too...

-kpaul

Re: It’s Not Citizen Journalism Or Crowdsourcing – It’s Just Journalism

I do think there's a difference, though, in the ways people are approaching this 'new new journalism.' (Darn you Wolfe for calling it that too early. Heh.)

I like to call what I do 'grassroots journalism.' Makes more sense to me and better describes what I'm doing - a bottom-up, horizontal, people powered approach.

-kpaul

Re: Web 2.0 Inefficiency: Crossposting On Twitter, Facebook, Google Reader, Etc.

Definitely a problem when you're 'too nice' to someone and offend them. Someone brought that up today in the newsroom - story about a satellite company repeatedly calling him on his cellphone to see how he liked his service. After he told them to stop calling. Trying to do 'good customer service' actually hurt the company. I think sometimes each site should have it's own post - because I for one use different social media sites for different things.

Depends also, I guess, on whether or not you're into 'SMM' (social media marketing...) Why TIME booted MySpace to their 'uncool' list I hear...

-kpaul

Re: Local Community Network Backfence Closing Down All Sites

Sorry to hear that.
