Nice post, but Viren was never found guilty of doping. Plus he never admitted to it despite a) the practice being "legal" and b) having been offered $1m by a magazine to admit it.

Clearly fox wishes to promote sexist, predujice ideals that we all like to think where left behind us in the 19th centuery.

#27: Good advise. I plan on skipping other articles by this author. If sentiments like those expressed here appear elsewhere on the site, I'll skip the whole site. That's feedback I'd expect the people involved with this site to want to hear. Whether you decide it matters or not is up to you. Your product is your product.
...but they do not take to the streets or start fights about it.
This is the/a standard for what is and isn't a major sport?
I guess I just feel you need to think about some of the things you're writing.

Basketball does not matter to hardly anyone outside the US.
Are you trying to destroy your credibility more than you already have? Your logic seems to hold that if a sport isn't as popular as football it does not matter. Well congratulations! You have an infallible, if utterly false and uninteresting, argument.
You probably should not be writing for this website.

#10: Pretty ridiculous. Brazil won in '58,
'62, and '70, but somehow, over that 16 year span, they weren't good enough in '66? Possible. It's also possible that, as is widely documented, the referees let the the English and Germans bulldoze most of the field.
This at least needs to be mentioned whenever '66 is brought up, whether you buy into it or not.

A 1966 reference with no asterisks? This World Cup win was from a dark, dark time in the sport and really should not be used as a reference point for today's game. The referees predetermined that Brazil, the best team at the time, would not make it out of their Group. Other South American teams were similarly discriminated against. Referencing that competition as a high-mark in England football history is at best problematic.

We have a passionate English chairman with enough financial know how to build a sports empire from rags. A new pitch and a relitavely new stadium compared to some of the other wrecks. Palacios and Valencia are wanted by Man Utd and you obviously haven't heard of Heskey, Zaki and Kirkland in America. We were praised on many occasions last season by the press for playing good football. Whoever wrote this article has based his facts on Rodney Marsh Interviews. Get your facts right before slating teams who deserve where they are. We were only elected to the football league in 1978. Utter garbage.

I thought Brian's comment (July 8, 2008 10:43 PM) was really thoughtful, and summed up some of my own thoughts, particularly:
"In the end, I guess my primary point is that I worry, in the progressive church movement, that too many arguments are made with a priori assumptions that we try to fit into Scripture, where a simple honest reading of Scripture would yield a different result."

in Barack Obama’s Speech on Father’s Day on Jack and Jill Politics
Ms. Martin
I agree that is what he's doing now. I'd only add that I believe he's doing that to elect himself and other Democrats, which I see as a good thing.
But I'm not sure that Obama's inital public service had the same "getting elected focus", but even if it did . . . the goals of improving a community and being elected aren't always mutally exclusive.
I don't see Obama's comments as much more then a black man, going in front of a black church and saying "let's look at ourselves" and even if he didn't say everything we may have wished he said, he said something which to me is an excellent thing.
Of course the issues of poverty and fatherhood are complex as hell and a speech doesn't exist that could cover it all but I appreciate that it was said.

in Barack Obama’s Speech on Father’s Day on Jack and Jill Politics
Obama's caught in a catch 22 where if he says nothing about the valid concerns many in our community have, then he's a sellout.
But if does and then doesn't provide enough balance in his comments, then he's hit another wall.
I like his speech. I respect the fact that he said it. Are there plenty of good black fathers out there? Sure. But that's what they are supposed to be, so no real cause for celebration.
And Ms. Martin, to say that O should go out into the community . . come on now, the man was a community organizer for pete's sake. He has been there and done that.
No, I don't think a speech from Obama will automatically change things, but it does set the tone. It does continue to advance the idea that certain behaviors are unacceptable. That is a good thing.

in R. Kelly Found Not Guilty on Jack and Jill Politics
There is plenty of ancedotal evidence that R. is a pedophile. If I were a betting man, I'd put money that he is.
But the lawyer in me knows that the State should have never filed this case.
An old tape, plus no victim testimony is the very definition of reasonable doubt. The State hoped that they could make R. look bad enough that the jury would convict basically because he seems shady as hell.
But jury's are funny things and lawyers are always shocked at how committed most are to get their jobs right.
The sad part is that by filing a case so weak, the State has done nothing but reinforce R's perception that he can get away with a whole bunch.
So if he really is a pedophile, the chances of him getting the help he needs has been reduced to zero.

I want to clarify I wasn't de-railing the review of Viva la Vida; I've not yet heard the album. I am, however, pointing out the clear debasement of Coldplay, and the sheer ridicule of the historical introduction of the band.

I loved it when you said how annoyed your are that Obama has made you believe again.
I'm the same way. :) Damn that pretty mutha Obama, he done got me all hopeful and stuff.
One of the things I was pondering was how in the world did he get the DNC to sign off on that no federal lobby money thing?
I couldn't imagine that it was as simple as walking into Dean's office and saying "sign this"
But then I remembered one of the things Obama talked about in his book.
He mentioned how many politicians don't want to be in the back pocket of big corporations but that's where the cash is so that's where they go.
So when he walked into Dean's office with no lobby money pledge, I'm sure Dean replied "so where is the cash coming from" and then Obama broke out a spreadsheet with hundreds of thousands of names of donors to his campaign.
And then another spreadsheet with the names of another group that he planned on turning into register voters.
And said . . . that's where the money is coming from.

Terrible review. You're coming into this review with pre-conceived notions regarding Coldplay which are completely biased and ridiculous. The X&Y/Twisted Logic tour was anything but "dismal." I have never once heard the argument that Fix You and Talk sound anything like they had written before (not only that, A Rush of Blood to the Head sounds completely different from X&Y; have you even listened to either record before?). Lastly, your attack on Chris Martin being ambiguous about "what he stands for" is clearly ignorant. The band have made their connexions with Oxfam, Amnesty International, and fair trade campaigns abundantly clear over the past several years. Perhaps next time you ought to find a person to review albums that doesn't have a band-hating agenda in mind.

in The Official JJP - Let’s Just Enjoy This Moment Post on Jack and Jill Politics
I remember South Carolina myself and those fears that our family down there was about to get bamboozled by Team Clinton.
I'm actually a bit ashamed at how low my expectations were for them.
Man, when Sen. Clinton got that beating in Carolina it was probably my proudest moment because it was sending a message to the world that we were informed political players and that we wouldn't take insults lying down . . . even when the MSM media tried to convince us that nothing was going on.
So to me S.C. was the biggest thing. To me, her campaign ended then. As we have talked about before, if she would have gotten just 30% of the black vote she would be the nominee today.
And I think you saw our impact repeated with that Congressional seat in I believe Miss. where a long time repug was tossed out because the black vote came out and got rid of him.

As for Sen. Clinton as VP . . .
Obama has shown that the best strategy with her is to just wait. If he waits long enough then she will say something that disqualifies her from any VP consideration . . . even though most believe she has done that already.
Sen. Clinton's deranged narcissism (I love that term) has led her to believe that only SHE controls her voters.
I'm sure Team Obama has a list of at least 5 VP candidates that can deliever everything Sen. Clinton brings without the baggage.
