in noodad » Surviving the Emergency Room on Noodad
In 19 months of being a noodad, I\'ve visited the E.R. several times. Each time was due to a high fever (100.9+). My wife and I were very fortunate to have been given Medicaid while she was pregnant with my son, and therefore he still retains Medicaid to this day. Because of this, doctor visits and/or trips to the E.R. were/are completely covered free of out-of-pocket expenses, so if there was any worry with my son\'s fever, we made the trip to the E.R./pediatrician.
Yes, the E.R. doctors always implied that I either came too early, or didn\'t come soon enough, but regardless, each trip resulted in my son\'s good health only days later.
I guess my point is to re-itterate what Noodad said: do not hesitate taking your kid to the emergency room if you are the least bit worried. It\'s always better to be safe than sorry!

in noodad » When Your Kids Go On Vacation Without You on Noodad
You are not alone, my friend.
When my wife goes on vacation to see her family \"Down East,\" I too have to stay home to work. It always turns out to be a good break for both of us. She goes to visit family who usually take over all aspects of parenting due to their grand parenting status, and I get to live life like it was before having children. I in no way want life any other way than it is now, but a break from stuff (and a nice cold beer) every once in a while is nice.
I enjoyed the article. Keep \'em coming.

in noodad » Boy or Girl? Should You Find Out? on Noodad
If you go into the ultrasound and they immediately say \"do you want to know the sex?\" then it\'s a boy. It means they saw the twig and berries immediately. If it\'s a girl, they have to make sure it\'s not hiding.
I never thought of it that way, but I suppose you\'re right. LOL
My wife and I were never asked if we wanted to know. At our first and only ultrasound, the nurse referred to it as a \"he,\" so unless we were deaf, the decision was made for us.

I\'m highly anticipating your next entry into the P.U. series. My son just turned 17 months last week and my wife and I are expecting potty training to be just around the corner. Part 1 is a good, short read. Thanks, foodad.

in noodad » Cloth vs. Paper on Noodad
The paper towels we use in our kitchen contain a high percentage (if not 100%) recycled materials. Sure, the absorption is not as fantastic as the paper from \"crop grown\" tree sources, but I still feel more environmentally mindful using recycled materials for my toddler\'s messes. Plus, the mildew argument can be valid if you don\'t do laundry often (but really, don\'t we all do laundry at LEAST once every other day?). 8)

in noodad » When Your Kid Rats You Out on Noodad
Now that is funny. I\'ve been told my one-year-old is in the midst of saying his first words (other than the standard \"mama, dada\" and other mumbo-jumbo), so wifey has been getting onto me for my quasi-offensive mouth :upset. Thanks for testifying, and reiterating my wife\'s sentiments before it\'s too late for me too :roll
