Actually /massively/ pinging BlogsNow will result in blacklisting the spamming blogs and domains. It applies if the same organisation pings more than hundred blogs a day. Most spammers do thousands an hour and most real bloggers below ten a day. So it's a pretty clean cut between real and spam.

90% of the blogspot.com pings that BlogsNow sees are junk.
That's all I can tell you. It got worse over time, and this weekend it tipped.

It would have been easy for Blogger to stop this when it was starting a year ago. They did not.
