I saw that private jet usage - to go to the hearings. That alone shows a level of stupidity (not even realialising that that is sending the wrong message) and why the top brass needs to be replaced. But bankruptcy does not seem to be an option for reorg. - who would buy a car if warranty and parts are in question. So how can help, in any form, be conditioned upon innovation? Seems obvious that the people who have fought fuel standard improvement for over 30 years, and have made no adjustments whatsoever to the changing market place, are not the ones who are going to bring the change needed to turn that industry around. (it's like hoping that all the old Clinton hands will bring change to the culture of Washington.....................)

an interesting new point from a comment on Huffpo: Lieberman was the co-sponsor of the Kyl-Lieberman amendment.....

" When the Kyl-Lieberman amendment was debated in the Senate, James Webb of Virginia said, "At best, it's a deliberate attempt to divert attention from a failed diplomatic policy. At worst, it could be read as a backdoor method of gaining congressional validation for military action, without one hearing and without serious debate."

Webb also called the amendment "Dick Cheney's fondest pipe dream"..........

Over the summer, Lieberman made an incredible comment about the democratic Party - that it had moved away from the party he knew or some such... Does anyone remember? I'd like to use that in my phone calls...

let's take a look at how Lieberman ran that committee these past 8 years, and look at how his counterpart in the house, Waxman, did, esp. after the 2006 election. Lieberman has been an enabler of every Bush act/non-act (Katrina hearings? Oversight??); his campaign behavior was an extention of that, not an aberration. So it is not "revenge" to want him out, just that that important post needs to be manned with someone who is on the winning/leading team's side in order to go forward. Lieberman has no "rights" here - and do we show him that blackmail works?!

Remember the Duke Lacrosse team? Immediately, HRC jumped all over this, firecely. Obama? Something like: let's take a breath and see when we have all the facts. I like that in my president!!!

Is any one out there stating that the cloting spree/campaign charges might be DUMB (she could have just gone shopping with Cindy!), but the tstate having covered the travel expenses for the kids and the retrofitting the books is ILLEGAL!

The clothing spree is excessive, but none of my business - but to charge it to the campaign as a one-woman earmark is unforgivably DUMB. But to charge your children's travel expenses and to retrofit the books is ILLEGAL!

Freedomfries, I agree that a Powell endorsement would get a few nice news cycles, and it might help with a small group of voters, winning them over, or at least not losing them after all these smears. But reading all I can about it, I do not think it is a slam dunk, and until then, high expectations are too risky - now a non-endorsement could actually hurt!

I just donated to Bachman's opponent in honor of my early vote in VA today - no complacency - interviews and robocalls like these do keep us on our toes, as they show just how stark the differences are, and how high the stakes. I agree with the low expectations for Powell - waht was he doing up in Alaska as a "character witness" for Stevens?! Why would he do the right thing now (unless he wants to get a seat at the table in an Obama admin. - Powell has shown that he does not put "country first". Setting up expectations for an Obama endorsement is too dangerous at this point. Then again, Sarah Palin's proximity to the highest office in the nation might just be enough to shake up even Colin Powell. He has a chance to choose what he wants to be remembered for - but I'm not holding my breath.

Spicer, I had a hard time believing my ears; just like she cannot distinguish her own facial expressions, she cannot distinguish concepts. Same with Pailin - simple thoughts/thought process/analysis/policies... anyone else read "The Endangered Mind" by Jane Healy? And Katharina Vanden Heuvel did chime in with my 1930 theme.

Just voted in VA!! I feel giddy about it, excited - and I've been doing this stuff for a while. I really don't think the complacency is that big a problem (except for the fundraising...) - these incredibly outrageous robocalls do keep us on our toes, plus, we are voting FOR our candidate, are excited about voting for him, could not wait to vote for him, so who will really stay home on our side?!

Gen Powell really has a choice to determine what he will be remembered for: the UN speech, and NOT publicly speaking out, and to continue to do so with not speaking up about how putting Sarah Palin a heartbeat away from the presidency (and endangering our national security), OR showing courage to break with his party and to PUT COUNTRY FIRST!

The man continues to amaze me. I admit that I loved reading how even David Brooks got the "tingles up his legs" or something like that over his intellect.

Did anyone see Lieberman, on how this is sooo exaggerated, and that Palin/McCain don't even hear these things? Maybe someone is telling them that it is on the newspapers - oh, all of them - which Sarah reads. Again, revving up populistic hatred for the "others" is dangerous, especially in scary economic times, not "just" for Sen. Obama, but racism trickles down to many others who tend not to have secret service protection, and dangerous to the very fiber of our society. Where are the media - muzzled by the threat of non-access, their unhinged notion of "balance", or by their "corporate sponsors"....... I really never thought I'd ever be thinking along these lines, at least not in America - that these things are actually invoked by candidates for the highest office?!?!
