I'm a huge fan of For Immediate Release, so I keep hearing all about Custom Scoop. I guess I should give it a go ;)
In regards to your post, I think it comes down to how humans are by nature: When there are flashing objects, we need to focus on them. When there's audio, we have an incredible ability to do other things as well ;) That's probably the biggest difference between audio and video.

Re: Spotlink: Seth Godin Action Figure

I'll carry him around too. If you want advertising (banners, search, affiliates, sponsorship, etc...) surrounding your Blog or Twitter feed to pay for the content/creator's time - go for it. It's when you start making that advertising "look" like the regular content (or in the same stream) that all credibility is lost and we start venturing into dark waters. This is why newspapers clearly define what is advertising/advertorial/paid content vs. editorial/content. I'm not sure I get where you think I said that a media channel should not be comercialized?

Re: It’s About Intent: Affiliate Links in Twitter

That's what makes this channel so awesome - the open dialog. I still think it's a bad idea. I would not recommend brands (or people trying to build their personal brands) use this as a strategy or tactic to grow market share.

The best part is that anyone can "unsubscribe" to anyone on Twitter. Hopefully, in the end, these types of people will only be broadcasting to each other, and they can just spend their days trying to shill each other.

That might be fun to watch.

Re: It’s About Intent: Affiliate Links in Twitter

I think affiliate links in an individual or corporate Twitter stream is a very bad idea.

They are short term tactics that generate very small and inconsequential overall revenues and growth, but have huge ramifications against your personal and corporate brand in terms of credibility, influence and professional stature in the long run. Of course disclosure and transparency are critical, but that has little to do with the bigger issue: if we turn Social Media into this dollar-for-your-action shill game against our personal online social networks, there will quickly be a revolt against this channel.

The sad part will be that these social channels were created, grown and fostered on the premise that these "conversations" were authentic - real interactions between real human beings - not a conversation "brought to you by the good people at [insert brand name here]."

I Blogged more about it over here (not an affiliate link!): http://tr.im/kUEA

Re: Understanding Izea’s Sponsored Blogging Service

Hey Jeremiah,

I just got off of a Skype call with Chris Brogan, where he discusses everything. It is now a part of the latest episode of my Podcast, Six Pixels of Separation. You (and your readers) can check it out here (it's very candid and very interesting): http://www.twistimage.com/blog/archives/spos-13...

Re: The Long Term Impacts of Online Critics on Personal Brands

Great post Jeremiah and something I discuss constantly over at Six Pixels of Separation. It's no longer about "degrees" any more. We are are all intrinsically connected.

Google has the memory of an elephant and an emotional "moment in time" now becomes your legacy (good, bad or neutral). I half-jokingly tell people that if they don't have some kind of digital footprint, I assume they are a spy or a serial killer.

The challenge for most is being able to "publish" your thoughts without getting caught in these kinds of online battles. It's hard and everybody likes to stop and take a read of a good online hooplah, but manage your personal brand with a long-term perspective and not from knee-jerk reactions.

Re: List of ongoing Marketing Podcasts

I appreciate the link love.

Thank you!

Re: Mitch Joel on the past, present and future within social networks

Thanks for Blogging about this Lee.

I know some people agree or disagree or add to it, but - obviously - there are some gray areas and they intermingle. So yes, I was playing a little bit of Devil's Advocate mixed with a healthy does of not just "drinking the Kool-Aid" of the latest and greatest shiny object (people said the exact same stuff about Second Life), with a dab of what I am constantly faced with by clients and people I speak in front of.

The truth is the channel is so new that I'm not sure if any businesses and/or brands really understands the opportunity of it to either dive in or stay away from. It boils down to one thing for me: what is the strategy of the business?

If taking part in Twitter falls into the strategy, it makes perfect sense. I know it does for my business.

Thanks for tearing the conversation apart and showing more sides of the prism. Here's what I translate him as saying:

Books are a small part of publishing in this day and age. Publishers should publish a lot more and be open to the new model of "selling souvenirs" as well. There's a reason authors like Suze Ordman can giveaway their book and still have it be their biggest seller when the hardcover version comes out.

It's also about building community. The drip of the book launch should not overshadow the work and communications that before, during and after launch.

People talk a lot and a launch date is only a small part of the conversation.

Re: Home Delivery: The New York Times Serves Up Some Malware

Thank you for posting this article.
