Those guys rock. Missed seeing them in concert here in Indy this past weekend but our friends went and loved them. They picked up their new album for me and I've been enjoying it.

Last month I wrote a post called Things I Haven't Had To Face where I talk about what you said at the end. No matter how bad we think we have it someone has it worse.

I'm learning to be more grateful for God's blessings in my life and try to recognize them sooner.

Oooh, that's a good one! I was a Youth Pastor for 4 years so I know TONS of disgusting games.

At a Western night they had to bob for fun-sized candy bars in a bowl of baked beans...

Then there is the classic where you melt different chocolate candy bars in diapers and see if the kids can guess which candy bar is which (the melted bars look really gross in a diaper)...

Man, that's a tough question and good discussion. I really think that there is no black and white answer to the question. The beautiful thing about the Holy Spirit is that he leads and guides us each differently.

My first take on this question is that the truth will always get you further than trying to cover something up. But then again, this didn't happen to me so there is no way I could know what I would really do if this hit home for us.

In the end I believe that the truth will always set you free and is stronger than the lies that enemy tries to sell us. I would hope that if I were in the same circumstance I could seek God's face and find the strength to let God speak to me and bring healing and forgiveness.

This is a challenging topic but one we shouldn't shy away from as the church. I think we need to be seen where people are. We need to follow Jesus and be at the "wells" of our day - the place of social interaction so we can shine our light from atop a hill rather than hiding it under a basket.

I'll admit, there are times I wish I could revert to some of my legalistic upbringing - at least with my kids. It would be so much easier if I could just separate everything into black and white, Christian and secular.

But I think God wants me to raise my children to be more discerning than simply accepting music, books or entertainment simply because they have been labeled as "Christian."

A pastor friend of mine posted about this a month or so ago. Always an interesting topic.

It's the whole "laborer is worthy of his hire" thing that the Bible talks about. Honest pay for honest (very hard at times) work. I've worked in the mainstream and in ministry and as I'm sure you know, those of us in ministry don't do it for the money!

I should also add that I'm totally against churches that try to squeeze every nickel and dime out of ministry leaders that they can. I've seen too many churches take advantage of their leadership by expecting them to work ungodly hours for next to nothing. I think that's a horrible reflection on the church.

Dude, I'm all about keeping it real (which I think you do well).

I know the big blogging web sites like copyblogger.com tell you to keep your target audience in mind, stay focused on topics relevent to your readers, stuff like that. But I'm just too all over the place to try to keep myself in just one topic.

I'll post about my newest music finds one day, extreme poverty in Africa the next, and then post pictures and videos of my kids after that.

In other words, just post what is on your heart. If you're thinking it, we'll read it. And it will be more enjoyable to read because you're writing from what you're passionate about right now rather than trying to come up with something to "entertain us."

Anyway, that's My two cents.

Dude, I couldn't agree with you more. I'm so sick of all this partisan bullcrap and the Christians who are going to have a cow that Don Miller *gasp* actually went to the Democratic Convention!

My hat is off to Don for going there when asked and praying from his heart. For what it's worth, that was one of the best prayers I've heard prayed for our country in a long time.

We need more people like Don and Rick Warren to open up the dialogue between both sides and reminding us that when we accepted Christ that doesn't mean our Republican voting card showed up in the mail the next week.

...put divisive bumper stickers on their car or signs in front of their church that only serves to drive a wedge between people who need God and the church.

...argue with people about things that just don't matter!

...forget that they are on the same team.

...tip poorly

...wear "Christian" t-shirts that are knock-offs of pop culture

...settle for less than their best and excuse it because it's for the church

...focus more on their needs in the church rather than the needs of the hurting world around them

...feel they have to start their own sub-culture versions of everything (GodTube, MyChurch) rather than speaking truth to the culture where they're at

I could obviously go on and on. Great conversation starter!

Wow...what an amazingly honest post. I'm sure there's going to be a lot of people who will identify with that...myself included.

My wife and two girls are going to be where you're at in about 3 or 4 months. We'll be leaving our established home, friends and church to move somewhere completely new and start a church with people we don't even know yet.

It's going to have to be God that gets me through it because there are times when I don't know how it's all going to come together.

Wow...some very interesting discussion going on here! It appears you hit a button Los!

I can argue both sides of the argument. I agree completely that churches should not be "personality-driven" (reliant on the dynamic personality of it's pastor). Like the speaker said, when this pastor leaves the church is left with shoes that need to be filled. And they can only be filled with someone of equal personality traits and charisma.

On the other hand I've heard someone say "anything with more than one head is a monster." If you have multiple people who are all co-equals but no clear head where does the leadership and vision come from?

No answers here...just more questions and discussion.

But when I'm not sucking, I do all the ironing (I enjoy it), I take the trash out, and I do all the tucking in at night. When we used to have a yard I would mow but here in a condo someone does that for me (love it).

lol, that comic is exactly how I feel every time I vote. I'm always worried that I pressed the wrong button or something that would invalidate it.

We voted early up in Fort Wayne since we were still registered up there. 2 hour wait. It was a killer.

By the way, I voted for the other guy but I was so happy to watch history made last night. I wrote my thoughts about it in my post this morning. It was an amazing evening. I don't think I've ever felt that way about an election before, especially after I voted for the guy who lost.

Now comes the time where we lay aside our differences and political views and pray like crazy for our president elect, his cabinet and our nation.

Wow, those are awesome pictures man. I love the fun, light-hearted look that Daley captured this time.

From the artistic angle I love the one with the shallow depth of field where you guys are blurred out in the background the the wheat (or whatever that is) is in focus. Awesome.

Great post and question.

I think "picking up the towel" will look different for each of us. In the simplest terms it's just doing what no one else is willing to do to serve others. It may be volunteering to clean bathrooms at our church after a youth rally (yuck) or coming in during the week to help out when no one will see us or give us credit.

I've been working lately on trying to become a servant in the truest sense of the word. It's a challenge.

Christianity is about a relationship with Jesus AND living it out in our relationship with others.

A buddy of mine just came back from visiting another church and was so frustrated to hear their version of an "altar call." It basically was "Come accept Jesus so you know that you can go to heaven when you die." Is heaven important? Yes. Is that all there is to salvation? Absolutely not.

So many people view Christianity as a big fat insurance policy against burning up in the afterlife rather than seeing it as so much more. It's about bringing God's Kingdom here to earth each and every day in our words, thoughts and actions.

Great posts and some great comments.

My post on the subject was less on my "response" to the story and more to remind myself to not be to judgmental of those who fall. He screwed up plain and simple. As Christian said, he was a dick. He needs help and his wrong needs to be righted in whatever way his church can make that happen.

I also remind myself that I can sure be quite a dick at times too. I may not have lied about cancer but I've lied about other things I regret. I've done things that haven't been a good representation of the name of Christ. I'm glad grace and forgiveness have been extended to me by God and others despite what I've done.

As I said on my post, But for the grace of God, there go I.

Ok, first of all, props to you for using the Max Headroom photo. I love it! Brings me back to my childhood. "Hello, I'm Mm-mm-mm-max Headroom!"

Second, yes, we've started watching all our shows online now. It's just so much easier. Since we moved I haven't hooked up our TV so we've spent the whole summer without a TV only watching what we can find online or rent at Blockbuster. Gotta love Hulu. I'm hoping most of the shows I like continue to show their episodes online this season.

Dude, that is so freaking awesome!! I love hearing stories like that and getting ideas for new and creative ways the church can really be God's hands and feet in this world. Man, that really pumps me up!

I just listened to Craig Groeschel's message yesterday about caring for others. One point that stood out to me was "To say that we care without acting is to not care at all" True compassion should always lead to action.

I'm so passionate about this subject and so encouraged to read what your church did. Keep up the great work in serving your community.

I think you're right about forgiveness being the core message of the church. Jesus challenged us, how can you say you love me when you haven't forgiven your brother?

I think far too often Christians blame much of where the country is on the political leaders instead of looking in the mirror. God has called the Church to be the agent for change in the world, not Washington.

Wow, I love these kind of discussions.

Here's a few observations / thoughts / opinions...

I don't think sickness is from God. I believe it's the result of the sin-filled, broken, messed-up world we live in. We're promised that when Jesus returns and brings a new heaven and new earth that there will no longer be any tears, sickness or death.

Can God use sickness? ABSOLUTELY! God uses everything - good and bad - for His Glory. Romans 8:28 says, "And we know that ALL things work together for good to those who love God and are called according to His purpose."

Can God heal? Or, the better question, does God still heal today. Again, my reply would be, ABSOLUTELY. The same God that healed the sick and opened blind eyes can do the same today.

HUGE fan of your work and the CoverAction Pro set. Use it all the time.

My only input would be (and this may have already been mentioned) could there be actions for different thinckness books? Say, maybe one for a 100 page, 250 page and a 500 page?

Another idea would be to create an action set for a tri-fold or bi-fold brochure. Similar to this mock-up I made for a brochure I had designed - http://www.bradruggles.com/images/brochure-2009...

Great article Kiel. We've always been big into recycling, although back in Fort Wayne, we had to sort out everything into separate bins. It's so nice here being able to toss everything into one huge bin. The only problem is that we're recycling so much now that the every-other-week pickup just isn't cutting it. We could easily fill up a bin every week.

Love that info video by the way. Very interesting.

Whoo hoo! That's a hot topic if ever I've seen one. No wonder you have over 100 comments on this. I'll have to bookmark this to read all of them later on.

I definitely understand the heart of what you're saying. We so often place outward actions above heart issues. The Pharisees were more concerned about making sure people looked good on the outside whereas Jesus was more concerned about their heart. The simple fact was that the woman who washed Jesus feet was closer to him than any of the religious leaders in the room.

There's a fine line between excusing sin and embracing the sinner. It's not our job to judge people. We're only called to proclaim truth and love. I have a feeling far too many people have been ruined for life because a church was more concerned about whether they were having sex before marriage instead of loving the person and letting God do the convicting.

Wow, sounds like you're living the Social Networking dream! I enjoyed reading about the connections and circumstances that took you to where you're at.

I'm a huge social media evangelist because just since I've stared the scene back in January I've been blown away by the connections that I've made. Connections that there is no way I should have and people that there is no way I should be talking with. That's the beautiful thing about today's flat world. The game has changed and I'm loving it.

I look forward to checking out what you're doing and staying in touch as you jet around the globe!
