Hi Shane
I happened to "wander" onto your blogsite and thought it was pretty cool to find another blogger-dad-christian-husband-apologetic-etc.

So.....you can add one more to the "tens of readers" of your blogsite.

On the question of young sex offenders on the adult register, I think it is really tragic that such a term should exist in the first place! Citing the very first example on the originating website - what I wondered was what prompted the 13yr old to do what he did? Was it a "dare" task from his peers? Was it a prank? Was it a weakness in his flesh that he could not overcome?

I can understand the camp that argues that publicizing the offenders name is unfair given that he has already been convicted and paid the price. And likewise as a family-man I can also see where the other side is coming from, in wanting to establish a secure neighborhood for our families.

But does the register really solve the problem? What I would rather see is a greater effort to reach our youth to help them build a stronger sounder moral foundation in their lives, rather than bashing them up for society's shortcomings and not taking any responsibility for our failure as stewards of the future generations.

Furthermore, it would be much more fruitful to engage and invest in such needy peoples lives (I prefer needy, rather offender) to help them overcome their weaknesses. They probably already paid a heavy price in that for the rest of their lives they will have to live with the fact that they have a criminal record, that they did something wrong (if the system succeeded in making them realize so, that is!)

To remedy to treating an illness is not to kill the patient, but stem/eradicate the infection-causing agent.

That's the thing that pisses me off the most about Toronto is the number of bike thefts. Friends of mine, and myself have all had bikes stolen, not from using dinky locks, but heavy duty $60 locks too. I'm glad someone is finally taking an initiative to keep our bikes safe because the police don't care.

aren't all our ailments rooted in sensed separation -- whether separation from God or from other people?
but our "treatments" are themselves predicated on that separation, a la "God cannot be in the presence of sin" and "come apart from the world", so how can they ever help us heal?

the premises that bind us together are faulty. i can't see how we can support the healthy development of the human family without revising our view of God and others. healing starts at One -- or interconnection.

you've commented on church missional insularity yourself. it's hard to be insular when you understand you are not apart from the people "out there" and you have chosen to stand in solidarity with them.

btw great article.....
although i was at work and couldnt watch the match i was updated every few mins by text. wen Sol scored my heart skipped a beat i was so excited but pissed off at the same time that i couldnt watch the match. but wen my manager came and told me dat barcelona had won i have 2 admit i wanted 2 cry. now ive finally got to watch the match on tape...our boys did us proud, arsenal definatly were the better team keeping up 1-0 for bout 70mins and being 1 man down and no lehman. theres always hope for next year and ljunberg played a craking game.

Yes yes.... I get it. I agree. I have two kiddos right
now that are in bed by 7... and a spouse who works
24 hours shifts, etc... so I have the time now.

Good to see your perspective now that your kids
are older. I get up early before mine to check
on other's blogs and update mine.
