The difference of quality, features, and definitely camera controls, in the videos of Second Life and Lively are amazing. I don't see many people jumping from SL to Lively just yet, maybe after a few more new versions of Lively?

They really do have a lot of work to do to catch all of those types of rooms. Even if they don't call the room "sex" this or that, the content in the room may still have it in a YouTube video or something. There really is no clear line in the sand!

in Google’s Lively.com is to Second Life, as Orkut is to MySpace on Marketing Pilgrim
Lively doesn't feel to me like they really copied Second Life. There are many other 3D chats that are more similar to Lively (There, IMVU, etc.). But one thing I find Google did that makes it stand out from the rest is the ability to embed your chat room in your own website. But I'm sure it won't be long until many other 3D chats give you this option. Lively also is lacking any type of "world," right now it's just a bunch of chat rooms with no connection except you can find them listed on lively.com

Lively sure is fun. I'm glad they released the beta finally, but it is very beta-like. I think it can grow into some norm for 3D web chat but it's hard to tell if it will compete at Second Life for a while.

I like the idea behind unype. I'm wondering if Google will incorporate Lively into Google Maps or Earth soon, which could make unype seem obsolete? I've already seen some websites embedding Lively into Google Maps as well.

I won't be surprised if Lively is the norm for 3D chat on the web in the future. They have a lot of potential even though there are many competitors.

It could be another "What if," yes there are many possibilities. Lively has some hurdles, but I think they have a headstart with the embedding feature. It's what makes Lively stand out from other 3D chats. Their lack of economy and a "world" do hurt it in comparison to Second Life, but I do think some type of economy is coming (possibly with Google Checkout?).

Hopefully it won't follow the footsteps of Froogle or Orkut and can jump out even further. But now that they released it so early, other 3D chats may be offering more web-based solutions to compete with Lively's embedding feature.

Thanks.

in Not So Lively: Chronicles of Day One on Google’s Virtual World on Gwyn's Home
Not only is it confusing and slow, it is fun. Yes, that last sentence seems a little strange when you read it the first time, but it makes sense if you think about it more. Lively can be slow, and not very unique, but one thing it brings to the table that is more unique than Small World, There, SL, and others, is the ability to easily embed their chat rooms in your website/blog.

There lack of content and real purpose (other than just chatting and throwing 3D objects all over the place in your own room), is acceptable in their beta stage; hopefully future versions will show us more purpose.
