I have a sister who has moved up to a Chief Mate position on cargo and government ships. She just did a one month shipping job going from LA to Hawaii. She received many firsts as a woman in the shipping industry,.e.g., a perfect score on her coast guard exam. She is trim, beautiful, & in her fifties.
