in Upgraded to WordPress 2.5 on Family Man Librarian
That's an interesting layout, which means little at this point. I'll have to come play around in it and see what I like or don't like about it. Still internet-less at home so I'm rationing my time across many things still. :(

Hey, it's your blog, brother. :) Do what you feel seems right for you. Not so much a fan of (only) that as archive navigation, but again, it's yours. I guess I haven't checked an older (pre-host move) link and was only referring to one from a couple days ago, and in that case the comments are missing too. As long as you are aware, I'm good. Just wanted to ensure it was either intentional or accepted (as best case) or both. ;)

Mark, thanks for pointing out these things; I really do appreciate it. I was wondering about the archives issue you raise and thought I'd add a page at the top as well, for the complete archives. See what you think. I am not sure if it really "fixes" the issue for you but ...

Steve, I hate to tell you but you have some issues here. Your archives have disappeared. Previous links fail and comments on previous posts have also disappeared.
I can get to neither via my del.icio.us bookmarks nor from the comments that show up in your side bar. Check the side bar for my comment on the What a mess post and try to get to either the post or your or my comments from there.
Did you change you permalink format or perhaps not refresh them after the upgrade?
Good luck...

in What a mess on Family Man Librarian
Oooh, let me know how well this plugin works, please, Steve.
Depending on your previous set-up and how much you know or are willing to learn you might be able to fix them with some "small bit" of work in a mostly automated mode. Me, in my move from TypePad after almost 2 years and 550 or so posts created myself one serious mess of a problem.
I hope to start fixing (some of) them soon but I think it'll have to be mostly by hand. :(

in Not a bar for librarians on What I Learned Today...
There are several of these around the country. Some of them, at least, are part of a chain.
I know for sure that there is one in Austin since I've been in it. I've heard and/or seen pictures of several others.

Congrats again, Nicole!
I certainly cannot speak for every program, but no, it shouldn't. Many of them used to be, but many have not been for a long time. We are just in the habit of speaking/writing that way, but even those habits show a lot of diversity. You earned a Masters Degree in the subject of LIS or IS or such. Some fields still have degrees with their disciplines in the titles, perhaps MSW for Masters of Social Work, but I think the trend in higher ed is to go back to the more typical Masters (MS, MA, MFA) and count the disciplinary part as what it is, a discipline.
Or I could be full of it. ;) But I think that has been the trend for a while now.

in Weebly’s not so wobbly on What I Learned Today...
That's nice to hear. I do have my own venue, though I agree with Nicole then that it'd be a great place for beginners, etc.
I still really have to wonder how they are making their $$ though. I was taught to look a gift horse in the mouth. And if they have an adequate business/funding model then--lawyers be danged--there's no reason for that clause at all.
I guess as with anything, use it as your own risk.

Excellent review, Anna! I finally saw this a few weeks ago after watching the 2 spelling bee and Scrabble movies. This was probably the best, although the spelling bee documentary is pretty good. Those Scrabble people are just weird!
I, too, have long been a crossword puzzler, but nowhere near this level. I have yet to take up Soduko, although I've been considering it since I keep getting the same puzzles in the books I buy. :(

Hi Anna,
I fully understand your pain; well, not the being female part. ;) But I, too, wonder where the sort of interim level learning opportunities are. I'm even currently in library school, but must honestly say that what little tech I'm learning here is because I support the distance ed portion of the school.
There's so much knowledge out there in people, but it is still too hard to share it. And when someone does it is usually for a fair amount of money. I realize that infrastructure and support costs the providers, but if we librarians can't find a way to teach each other the skills we need and on the cheap, well, it doesn't bode well.
Our student groups, especially ASIS&T;, have put on a few tech workshops here at UIUC. Maybe that is a route to try and pursue? It could even be a fund raising opportunity for them. But I imagine that as soon as they try, the schools will want "their share," if it is even allowed by various laws--being on school property, etc.
Anyway, we all need to figure out some way to help each other learn the skills we need.
Wishing you well on finding your academic passion!

It probably is the tagging, sinced it is in fact new content on those posts. In TypePad, I can save and save and save trying to get a silly trackback to send, but it does not send any updates out via RSS. But just as if you fixed a typo, or added some content, adding a tag (which is in fact new content) seems to cause another copy to be sent via RSS. All in all, I believe it is working as it should, maybe not as we'd like. You know, it's a feature, not a bug.
I could certainly be wrong, but that is my experience so far.

Hi
I'm trying to do a trackback to you, but I guess TypePad is up to its old useful "tricks" and won't send you the trackback. It sent one to my own (other) post and to technorati. I've had a help ticket open for several months over this problem, but it just keeps cropping up.
I certainly don't imagine you can do anything, but I thought maybe by signing in to make a comment it might force something....
Best, Mark
