in Zimbra tops 40M paid users: More popular than Gmail? on VentureBeat
anthony -

i wonder what % of zimbra's paid mailboxes are from the comcast deal? it would be easy for me to believe that comcast could push out 30M email addresses to broadband subscribers.

anthony - nice post - aster data is a really good company with really solid technologists - one thing that's interesting is how they tick both the boxes of cloud computing/distributed systems and traditional enterprise sales model.

that seems like a good way to be both ahead of the curve, and fundamentally grounded.

max - isn't it that there are a lot of http calls to playlist.com generated from loading myspace and facebook pages with project playlist players on them? That's quite a bit different from some of those other sites that are more of destination sites.

that john batelle quote is so concisely brilliant re: data/stats/context
goes way beyond just purely google/comscore

in Reader question: What’s the difference between “Viral Marketing” and “Word of Mouth?” on Futuristic Play by @Andrew_Chen

. . . it's just that not as many people talk about organic, word-of-mouth virality because it's a *lot* harder to engineer - remember how viral google was when you first heard about it just because it was so much better than altavista or whatever else you were using to scratch around the internet with.

in Bug Labs - Photos on A VC
As I understand it, the point of Bug Labs is more of a development tool/platform - but for hardware - not ultimately meant to be widespread end-user devices - the idea is to let technical people build innovative hardware faster by combining some of their own custom work with other pre-existing modules in interesting and non-obvious ways - just as happens with web development these days. The best combinations could then be distilled down into a non-modular refined version for end users. That's a pretty big idea!

in Want some of that Skype cash? Call Atomico on Mathew's comments
To start a VC firm with a quick and reasonably-sized exit like last.fm right off the bat is fantastic. I have no doubt that Atomico will quickly develop a reputation for being 'smart-money' within the world of vc firms.

btw nice first name - too many people spell it with 2 t's

in The Veils At Bowery Ballroom on A VC
Advice appreciated: I am thinking about going to see Rilo Kiley at Webster Hall on the 22nd when I am in town from Seattle - but Webster Hall doesn't seem like the nicest venue - definitely not a small, cool club, and I like Rilo Kiley's previous album a lot better than what I've heard of the latest one.

But I still can't decide whether to go while I am in NYC
