in At the rate the market is going, Apple may need a sub-$500 laptop on Tuesday on VentureBeat
Great point... you're probably right. I'd like to see how many they sell of the $800 and see if they do go lower.... I think that would be the more successful route but they don't want to go too low to go against their brand image.. hmm decisions decisions. Desperate times call for desperate measures.

in Is Germany That Important to Facebook? on AllFacebook
I'm confused... not sureif I see German there but I definitely don't see any contest as of right now geared towards Americans. I tried to enter the 3,000 Euros one and of course it was for UK residents. It's apparent that they're just not finished with this app yet which is why they're not promoting it?

in Report: Almost Half of New Facebook Profiles Are Fake on AllFacebook
This isn't surprising... I bet the ratio of fake to real profiles on Myspace is even higher. It's an epidemic? Why? I have no idea (except for the spamming reason - which I know isn't why all fake profiles are created).

in How Can Brands Really Succeed on Facebook? on AllFacebook
Very interesting. I've had the same conversation with peers. Honestly most businesses won't find a substantial amount of success on Facebook. It should be considered a complementary way to brand your business and have more online visibility but certainly shouldn't be relied on for success. Very few applications get to the level that one would hope and while many applications are GREAT, people have been so bombarded with new applications that the majority of people may never discover the app due to a close mind. Any application developer creating a new app now should not hold their breath.

in Apple hits 10 million iPhone goal early — its stock fails to notice on VentureBeat
I agree with hwork... I bet this was this plan all along. Either way, perhaps it will give them the momentum they need to get back up in terms of their stock. We'll see.

in Friendster Launches First Implementation of Facebook Open-Source Platform on AllFacebook
This is great news for app developers if they've seen significant decline in their app usage on FB. They just need to make it appeal to the Asian audience since Friendster is so popular there.

Hey the funding seems smart as this product actually seems like it will be one of the very few successful ones actually receiving funding.

in Royalty rate frozen, iTunes is saved! (It was never going to die anyway.) on VentureBeat
I have to agree...iTunes was never going to shut down. I do however think they should lower the royalty rate anyways... definitely not raise it.

in Seth Goldstein on Social Advertising: It Ain’t Easy on AllFacebook
Social Advertising is definitely one of the most challenging avenues of advertising.. that's a fact. People on social networks are more interested in communicating and less interested in buying. Some of me wouldn't even opt for it if I were an advertiser.

in The T-Mobile G1 is significantly cheaper long term than the iPhone 3G. Why? Text messaging on VentureBeat
Everyone keeps talking about how cheap the G1 is but after speaking to a T-Mobile rep, the phone is AS LOW as $179.99 but is not for 95% of people. Basically it is $179.99 for ELIGIBLE T-Mobile customers. I've been with T-Mobile for about 4 years and for the first time ever (2 months ago) upgraded my phone. Well if I hadn't done that, I would have gotten the G1 for $179.99 but instead I can get a *partial* upgrade for $299.99. As far as I know, I'm not sure if it's much cheaper for newer users. I could be wrong.... either way, you're right in terms of the text messages. I didn' switch to AT&T because I think their pricing is ridiculous but all of them get our money in some way, shape or form.

Good info Nick. I'm sure more of this will come out over the next few weeks. I would be shocked if T-Mobile doesn't backtrack from the 1 GB cap thing. Pricing may be problematic for some though as you suggest.

in Could This Be The End Of URL’s on Rev2.org
This is a great point. If URL's become a bit obsolete, we may face the same problem ultimately that we do with phone numbers. When you lose a cell phone number, you're not used to having to memorize so oftentimes you're there without any numbers as they have all been memorized by your phone! Imagine not remembering any URL's... and having your computer crash.....
Then again, Chrome DOES have your web history stored on the web right? Hmmm maybe you're right :)

I believe if more people knew about what RSS feeds were overall, they'd certainly take advantage of it . It is like having your own personalized newspaper on a daily basis! I also love that there are RSS readers on Smart Phones now too which makes it easier to read them on the go. :) Great links.

So many people use RSS without even knowing it -- and that's probably a good thing. It's one reason I like to show Alltop as one outlet of how powerful RSS really is. A chock full of content from all over, delivered by RSS - without ever mentioning RSS or what it is. Smarter, Quicker, Faster. The Bionic way to send and receive content
