in TMV Icon: Eartha Kitt on Conversations With Marva
Eartha had the "it" factor as you said, Her sexy appeal was innate and not forced but permeated her entire being, her essence. She can not be replaced or duplicated and will be missed.

The Commodores and the OJAYs, excellent selections! And we knew how to slow down and party too!

I love your picks. I originally also picked the same Toni and Luther songs, but changed at the last minute. The Whitney pick is wonderful. I love Toni Braxton and Luther is never second to anyone. Excellent! Happy OSF.

I think that arrogance and the aura of invincibility is causing a lot of folk to be exposed for what they truly are. "Pride comes before the fall."

I am sure that this is probably a set up, revenge prosecution, as well as stupidity to the nth degree. This is sad, but may be exactly what OJ needs. Something has been dysfunctional in his private life for a long time. Maybe he will now be able to get himself together.

No question! Jamie Foxx is a great talent. I wonder that his acting ability has undermined appreciation of his singing talent.

in Cheaper to Keep Her (or Him)? on Jack and Jill Politics
From my perspective, marriage, divorce, as well as cohabitation without marriage are increasingly becoming contractual arrangements as opposed to spiritual considerations. The basis of the so-called contract are usually financial considerations in one way or another. For me, drama and strife are not worth the money - at whatever price.

in A fool and his money soon part... on Sagacious Rambling
There were some telltale signs that Mr. Burress was beginning to self-destruct - domestic violence charges, team infractions, etc. But the more I watch these events unfold, the more uneasy I am becoming.

The mayor and others are jumping out there a little too early for me with rather strong, opinionated comments. Why? Revenge because of others who were brought to trial and found not guilty? Also, It is well known that high profile athletes have been targets and victims of robbery, etc. New York City, and its police department, on the other hand does not have the best reputation itself in the area of "accidental" shootings of innocent black men. In addition, the mayor has been known to have the disease of selective prosecution, choosing to ignore other committed felonies in NYC. I am definitely not defending Plax, but is there something deeper and larger here?

It seems like there have been warning signs, previous issues cropping up. I am sure intervention was attempted by those around him. I guess prosecution or jail will help him "see the light."

Master Blaster and You and I - two opposite ends of Stevie's creative spectrum. One a staple at wedding ceremonies and the other at wedding receptions. Stevie's work represents the best in social commentary as well as touching the heart of what is positive in our relationships.

in Video of 8 year old Arizona boy describing shootings on Sagacious Rambling
If this boy did do this, there is something grossly dysfunctional going on in the household that would facilitate this. Also, I don't know if he did it or not, but this interrogation is very problematic and may come back to haunt the prosecution's case.

in I Have Questions About Gay Marriage on Jack and Jill Politics
I am not a lawyer, but church or clergy performance of marriages is contractual. There possibly could be, in my opinion, an issue if gay marriage is legalized and a ceremony is performed for one couple and not for another when everything else is considered equal. For example, both are members of the congregation, etc. It is an interesting dilemma and I think will probably come down to the courts. The same thing goes for providing benefits.

Premarital sex issues however, are not relevant as it is not against the law.

gussie Intermarriage between Jew and gentile is legal, but synagogues aren't legally obliged to perform them--even if the gentile is a dues-paying member of teh congregation.
Nate_Wesley's picture
Nate_Wesley I doubt this would be the case. The religious institutions perform the ceremonial aspect of marriages, but its the states who issue the licenses (and makes them legal). As long as the states issue the license and continue to allow marriages by judges or justices of the peace, the churches can do what they want, performing ceremonial weddings at their own discretion.

If I were gay and my church didn't allow or perform same sex marriages, I wouldn't bother pressing the issue--I'd just get the license done from the appropriate county office, and have my own ceremonial gathering wherever I could get it done. That's the way it should be, IMO. (Though if I really were gay, I should have probably found a more progressive church home in the first place.)

There is something cynical in me that looks back at those who criticized the marginalized for accepting so-called handouts and now are the very ones lined up in a long, raucous procession to make their pleas to one of the very despised. "The last shall be first and the first shall be last!"

Obama is going to have to "go street" on somebody before he leaves office. At least I hope he does. But it's better to do it now, they'll have forgotten about it later. I say treat him worse than an infidel and a heathen. Be done. We ain't got 60 anyway.

CPL Still have three seats not decided: Franken, Martin and Beigich in Alaska.

With those pickups, (and at last count, Norm Coleman's in a recall with Franken, and Saxby Chambliss in GA is facing a run-off cause he didn't get 51%), we'll be close enough to 60 majority seats, and there will probably be some Republicans who can breathe a sigh of relief that they can go back to being independent and moderate (Olympia Snowe and maybe Susan Collins since she got the shyt scared out of her in her campaign; Hagel, and maybe Lugar), will give Reid enough votes to do without Lieberman.

in Message from Howard Dean: Don’t Blow It on Jack and Jill Politics
Under appreciated and maybe even still maligned and stigmatized for his unique display of emotion. If Obama is elected, Dean is architect of the winning battle plan and as such should receive the credit due.

Nate_Wesley Dean's primary loss in 2004, based upon a campaign much more populist than John Kerry's, may have been a blessing in disguise. Dean got heat for his comments about reaching out to the 'guys with the confederate flags on their pickup trucks', but it turns out he was right. The Democrats started organizing seriously instead of writing off the red areas on the map, and what they ultimately found were moderates (who very well might have leaned right) who were willing to give local Democrats a chance...and therefore, some national ones too.

The Democratic party is much stronger and unified now than it was four years ago.

The equivalent biblical verse for this post:

"Prepare the way, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
Every valley shall be lifted and every mountain brought low.
The crooked way shall be made straight and the rough roads made smooth.
The glory of God shall be revealed and ALL PEOPLE shall see it."
