Hmmmmmmm, bacon.

BTW, my wife uses this stuff called "NuSkin" or something clever like that. She uses it to glue her cracked and split fingers back together. She has a bit of a dry skin problem in winter.

in Can Twitter Help Your Marriage Get Out Of A Rut? on Building Camelot
Hey, I remember this conversation! I think I might have even responded.

Now that you have gotten on the electronic band-wagon for paying bills, I have the next step for you:

Have them AUTOMATICALLY paid! Most utilities and other regular monthly billers (I coined a term!) have this option. I moved to doing this after I realized it had been YEARS since I had seen a mistake in one of my bills. Not worth the time everymonth. You can still review the bills online, too. Now I don't get all that mail, and don't have to worry about when I'm out of town.

in Best Purchases of 2008 - Twitter Style on The Broad Brush
I agree with Zach - the purchase of my Nikon D60 was clearly my best purchase of the year...got me back into better photography since I had to cut myself off from my film SLRs due to film/processing expense!

Still love my old SLR, though. In fact, I plan on using it tonight. I have 5 rolls of film sitting here waiting.

Other than that, my best moves this year were involvement in the St. Louis Blogger's Guild, and continued blogging and tweeting!

I blog and have a twitter account. Although I initially have focused on St. Louis related people, I'm slowly branching out. In both cases, my world has expanded because of social media.

I have a boss (who is actually a good boss!) that explains it easily like this: "Don't play the victim" and "choose your battles wisely."

Those two statements tend to put it all in perspective for me.

tojosan Amen to not playing the victim. Thanks for your share as well.

in From submariner to blogger and a few things in-between - Pt 1 on The Broad Brush
I can't imagine working on a submarine. I've visited a couple, and I can tell you I am too claustrophobic for that gig!

I'm certain its a job that had a lot of camaraderie and generated many stories, though!

in Tag your it. on Talking Chester County
Wow, this meme is really making the rounds! It swept through St. Louis in the past month, too.

I also do most of the cooking, because I find it fun and relaxing. I begged my mom incessantly as a kid to learn, and she taught me. Now she sometimes calls me for advice. Relocation of my office has really hurt my weeknight cooking, but the weekends and special occassions are ALL MINE. I even cooked on my birthday, where we had to explain to everyone that I actually WANTED to do that!

Rock band, been there, too. Still play (at 42) though mainly at our church's weekly contemporary service. Guitars and Keyboards/synths for me. No singing.

Is it true a car drove through a tent during the lugging?

I was so looking forward to getting pictures of that, and just got one of the last tent.

The whole event was a lot of fun, I'm looking forward to the next one.

in Wordless Wednesday #3: on Daddy's Toolbox
I LOVE taking pictures of bees. We have lots of Bumble Bees in our yard and I am constantly chasing them around. It's even worse with the recent purchase of a new Nikon D60.

If I remembered where it was on my blog, I'd post a link of one of my Bumble Bee and Coneflower pictures.

I'm looking forward to getting macro lenses and close-up flashes (I've never had close-up flashes, before) for the new camera. I miss the macro lense I had for the manual focus film SLR.

in 10 Things The Service Taught Me About Social Networking on The Broad Brush
Certainly some solid words of wisdom, here. I haven't been in the military, but I am a leader and I try to instill most of these points in my direct reports (in a "normal" 9-5 job), with an eye towards making them new leaders (and my replacement).

tojosan Thank you Gregg for the feedback. Glad to hear from another leader. I've been more follower than leader lately but the truth is that each of us in leader to someone. I wish I could bottle up all of the cool things I've learned, and rehash them for myself and share with my sons in an easy to use fashion. :)

in FIve more things the service taught me about social networking on The Broad Brush
While certainly not a military type (unlike other High School rockers, though, I had and still have a TREMENDOUS respect for military types!), this is great advice that works well in all areas of life, whether you play in a band, write a blog, work as an engineer, or work as a janitor.

The basics of any occupation or pastime are the same.

Excellent post and insights, as always!

"I'll go maybe twice, and then I'm out."

Yeah. That's how leatherface started! I joke.

Hey, if I did this, I'd look ridiculous, as my natural complexion borders on pasty. I'd love to have me some nice dark brown skin. I have a lot of India friends (as I travel there), and I am so jealous of their skin! I mention my pasty pale complexion and they all laugh...and it's not the laugh of jealous people. No. It's the laugh of, "We're so glad you mentioned something. We thought perhaps you didn't know how pale you are!"

I'm so jealous.
