EMC would not sign a deal leaving it open to patent liability.

This is two other companies having a fight and EMC will expect both to honor their respective contractual agreements regardless of how things are going for them.

Personally I don't think it's that bad a thing that bloggers who work for EMC (There's a difference between those and EMC bloggers. Bloggers who work for EMC are more likely to be blasted by the company for one, I still have some buckshot in my behind from being shot by corporate), are exuberant about what they've been working on.

Known bias does add context to information. And if you read something written by someone who knows something about what it is you're reading about and both they and you think it's awesome afterwards, well then maybe it is actually awesome.

Or not.

And they won't even offer you a trade in. You can't trade in what's in the box against a higher capacity model. I've a stack of these things in various capacities and I can't even RAID the bloody things.

The difference here being that Oracle has never certified hardware, it's just explicitly stating that they will not support VMware.

So Oracle certifies that it runs on Windows or RedHat and MS/RedHat says Windows/RHEL runs fine in VMware, where's Oracle's problem with VMware?

In the eLab case it's just like any other customer putting a niche OS in front of EMC gear. It doesn't matter if it's an SVC/V-Series/USP/other or some niche flavour of Linux. There were more requests for MacOS X support, which is why it was added, than there are for support of those platforms combined.
