in cre8Buzz Re-Do: Ode to the cre8Buzz Departed, on cre8Buzz Blog
Sorry its taken me a while to comment on this, it taken me a while to work out what I wanted to say.

You've asked the question about why active members slow down, I think its a combination of many things. As mentioned above, summer and other family activities will take a hit on blogging time. I don't think the size of the community is directly a problem, it was tight when there were only a couple of hundred users, the growth in the communities has improved this in the communities that have grown.

When I joined Cre8Buzz last August, I already had my own blog and photo gallery and saw Cre8Buzz as a great outlet to promote these. It has been, and I believe it will continue to be. For quite a while I was part of the 'welcome wagon', greeting new members when they joined. I was moderately active adding pictures and posts to my profile. I'd join in the photo assignments and enjoy the challenge it provided. I took pleasure in customising my profile, adding additional sections, even created a test chat room for use by the community. After a while, I realised I was spending the limited blogging time I had trolling for new members and greeting them rather than actually posting content. When I realised this, it made me start to question what my purpose of posting on Cre8Buzz was. Looking at my blog, the posts had almost dried up and I had stopped uploading images to my gallery. What had started as a promotion of my content had over a period of time replaced my content. Chasing the buzzrank became an exercise in uploading images and getting views.

Like Jackal has commented, the frustrations of the reordering of photos has passed the point that I want to use it. The photos assignments are great, and credit to Jackal for driving this uphill battle. Unfortunately, as she said, very few people actually tried to give any critique on photos, there have been some great photographers who have joined Cre8Buzz, but have moved on because it didn't work. The forums have never worked like a normal forum and this should have been picked up at the initial testing/design stage; while acknowledging this problem is great, they still haven't been resolved, still sorting by last view.

I'm hoping after a bit of a break, I'll be able to come back and join in active and motivated again.

That's great Vijay!

I haven't looked back since we got our bikes and am really enjoying getting out and about.

Not practical for me to use it for work; I'm not up to a 19 mile (30km) ride to work. I am feeling a lot fitter and full of energy now I'm exercising again. I hadn't realised how much difference regular exercise made until I started again.

Ian

Hi James,

Thanks for dropping by and having a look.

I don't remember the community selection being a drop-down when I joined, I think it was more like the nested structure that you get when navigating the communities.

I'm with you on the search box. It would probably work better if the selected item also appeared as text by the search icon.

One thing I really like about cre8Buzz is the sense of community. Everyone is friendly and prepared to help each other. The team do take our comments on board and work to address points that are raised, so you really feel part of it.

Regards,

Ian

Hi James,
Thanks for taking this up. I hope you didn't have as hard a time with J as I had with I.
You could have had 'Jaffa Orange'

in Multilingualism. on scan man's notes
What a wonderful post Vijay.
It always amazes and shames me that so many other people become multi-lingual and in the UK generally we do not. I remember when I went on an exchange trip about 25 years ago to Germany struggling in German and the whole family I was staying with speaking fluent English.
I don't know whether it is a subconcious throwback to the colonial days and the arrogance of 'everyone will speak English'. I think we have a distrust of anything that isn't British which keeps everything else out of national use. Although, there has been a change in the cultural mix in the past years, more so in the last decade, this underlying distrust prevents the integration of these cultures leaving them as isolated pockets. That said, the earlier influx have integrated and are seen as part of British society and its now the newer influx that are distrusted, so we do change but slowly. So maybe slowly other languages will become more accepted and even mainstream rather than just 'available in other languages'.

Ian

Hi James,
I also came across the BlogCatalog widget the other day. It looks almost exactly like the MyBlogLog one, but it also gives how long ago the visit was.
