I was a close friend of Jason Cardenas and I will miss him dearly, just a senseless tragedy. I want to leave my email message for Mrs. Cardenas as I have no other way to contact her but here, I have momentos that I would love to give her and to send my condolences...

in More Fear of A Brown Nation: USA Today on Jack and Jill Politics
Deborah,

FWIW, despite our occasional tiffs on issues such as wages and job availability, Blacks and Latinos benefit tremendously from each other's growing political power overall.

We both share an interest in preserving affirmative action and confronting the assaults of the White "privilege class."

By helping to support e.g. amnesty for "illegal" immigrants (who have in fact been invited in and worked very hard by the US corporate class), we are also supporting the legalization and rewarding of a class that was long denied fair compensation for their labor, just as Blacks once were.

Also, both Blacks and Hispanics tend to support liberal political figures who look out for our interests.

We won't see eye-to-eye on everything. And yes, Latinos can sometimes be cliquish, but I don't mind that-- if Latinos want to use Spanish in their communities, they have a legal right. The USA took the Southwest in the Mexican War remember, and that region, like Florida and Puerto Rico, has laws that explicitly give rights to Spanish as an official language in wide public application. Besides, Spanish isn't hard to learn. Yo lo hablo sin mucho dificultidad, y he aprendido el espanol para solo cinco meses!

The point is, Latinos and Blacks are natural allies, we're both very dark-skinned peoples who've been brutalized and victimized by the British and their Anglo cousins in the USA for centuries. Whites hate us both. And only by sticking together can we stand up for ourselves and protect our rights here.

in Welcome to my blog party…. on Lori's Reflections
And I thought I had it good with 65-70 degree temps the last several days! Thanks for having us over and providing a good beach tip in addition to the lovely weather.

I am so with you on the clean house thing, but around here it has too be clean bathrooms or I feel like the house is dirty.

"The mission of churches shouldn’t be to get bigger. The mission should be creating disciples and sending them out to do ministry."

Exactly! You put words to something I've been ruminating on the last several days.

Have you read "Growing True Disciples" by George Barna? I haven't but am intending to. You can read a sample chapter here: http://www.barna.org/FlexPage.aspx?Page=Excerpt...>

in The library isn’t quite anymore on Thom Allen Weblog
Hmmm... interesting thoughts. It seems that society has started to value the rights of each individual above the rights of society in general. It's more important for the individuals in the library to be able to speak loudly than it is for everyone in the library to be able to concentrate.
