Extended thoughts on the need for aggregation and the current 'Hallucinogenic Spirgraph' architecture of Social Media.

Nice post and useful tips. There are a few services there I need to take a look at, so onto the to do list for tomorrow. I've also been thinking a lot about 'presence consolidation'. I will write that up in more detail tomorrow, but in essence I've been thinking about using mashups to control 'feed sprawl' and tools like Flock and PingFM as aggregators so as density increases I don't spend all day chasing my 'social media tail'. I'd love a big open portal for all my social media activity. Again I intend to blog a bit about that over the weekend.

An interesting and useful analogy. I must confess it did leave me thinking about what a Social Media vasectomy might involve!

in louisgray.com: Social Media Experts are the New Webmasters on louisgray.com
I understand what you are saying in terms of Social Media experts and the new cool 'label'. I think there are genuine experts in this domain, and this definitely crosses a number of technical and commercial realms. I like to think of Social Media experts as being those with strong knowledge management, team building skills and skilled in the science of collaboration driving communications through Enterprise 2.0. I understand the temptation to see it all as 'spin', but don't forget collaboration technologies have been researched for decades (CSCW) and some of us have been around these developments for 15+ years.

Yes, there certainly is an issue panning the tiny pieces of gold from the silt of the river beds of Web2.0. I find Hahlo and Summize help me stay on top of Twitter (well a little better). A well configured feed reader (i.e. with well thought out subscriptions) saves a tonne of time. That makes it relatively simply to scan hundreds of sources for new material. You can do some funky things with Yahoo! pipes or Microsoft Popfly to make RSS mashups which can also processes, filter and assemble new feeds to a specific recipe. I also use StumbleUpon, Digg, Delicious and Clipmarks to save good stuff as I find it. On a 'weekly' basis I check those bookmarks and see what I want to add into my feed reader for regular consumption.

I had the pleasure of attending the Salute to Israel event in London as a guest of Anglican Friends of Israel. It was a fantastic day and I hope you will enjoy the pictures and video I took of the event:

I refer to Microblogging as 'single click, no safety catch' and an easy way to put out globally distributed 'sound bites' (or should I say sound bytes!). It is an interesting idea that a fire storm can be created with rumor mongering.
