I always enjoyed watching Mr. Dobbs perform, much as I used to enjoy watching Mr. Rogers. Predictable, always left me wondering if he had recently had a stroke or something, voice with a slight quaver... stoked the fires of nostalgia for simpler times when poor white folk still were in charge of the neighborhood. Gone, all gone now. What a shame. I suppose someone will give him a half-time job at a local foodbank so he can berate the poor and the misbegotten at his leisure.

Went into my primary care center in British Columbia today for a standard renewal of my prescription. The lobby was crowded so I expected I might have to wait a day or two. Not so. I waited 5 minutes; the crowd was waiting patiently for their free H1N1, seasonal flu, and pneumonia vaccine shots. The new three month prescription will cost me about $10 out of pocket. The doctor visit cost nothing at all. In and out altogether in 10 minutes even while there is a major health scare going on. Glad I live here on the good side of the 49th parallel. 10 miles south of here, the situation remains shall we say clouded as far as medical services are concerned. Civilization is delightful; I commend it's virtues to you all.

If these wimps are too scared to fly I would suggest that government asks for their passports back as they are too stupid to be let out of the country again. What an effing embarrassment for the rest of us. I hope the two Asian blokes got some decent compensation from Monarch. I also hope that Monarch will be fined massively by whatever oversight body deals with airlines for such contemtible treatment of passengers guilty of nothing but being "unEnglish".

nobody says that if Orkut continues focusing on only Brazil or India countries, it will die, absolutely!
Nowadays, for any European citizen, it si completely impossible to maintain an Orkut profile, simply due to the lack of contacts!!! Nobody are there. The majority of the profiles are brazilians or indian people.
Let us take a tour in Facebook... twitter... for example...
I am an appasionnate of Google products but I have to recognize that speaking about social networking, Google is so far away from the top!! :( Or they do something amazing with Orkut or it will desappear becuase even on its great markets areas (Brazil and India) there is a great competitor, even more growing and growing...

Clinton's "spot-on" GDP was based on the internet bubble - after the speculative collapse, GDP fell to the floor, along with any supposed "surplus." Is current growth stable? Yes. Does current tax policy promote growth and increase revenue to the gubmint? Yes.

I believe we'll see recession if the Dems can implement their MO - increased taxes and pork. We're already seeing the pork, but once new taxes (or elimination of breaks) hit we'll see business spending pullbacks, increased unemployment and higher prices. It's bad enough to see food prices spiral due to bogus energy policies - the current ethanol stupidity (courtesy protective tariffs) is nothing but grief.

In the transition to universal single payer status in Canada and then later the termination of extra billing, there were several doctor's strikes or job actions and one was of the utmost seriousness (covered in a book called Doctors' Strike by Robin Badgely). At the risk of overstatement, is it perhaps not time to ask what IS working in the United States? The list of dysfunctional institutions is now longer than the average arm and seems to be growing longer day by day. There are few reasons left to hold US$ now. Look for the exchange rate to plunge and oil to be priced in Euros in the near future. I well remember a lecture I attended in my first year of university, many long years ago, which conclusively showed that stupid rich American undergraduates had a higher likelihood of graduating than poor but gifted students. I assume things have changed since then but the larger issue remains. Until you have a sensitive talent search covering the entire entering cohort and then deliver your best education to the winners without regard to their origins at all your institutions of higher education are never likely to operate at the highest possible level. If its left to individual professors to be God's talent scouts for lack of a better phrase, many of the best will never make it to the top. Its an inefficiency few societies can long afford. If we can screen the entire of population for a specific set of athletic skills (in most of the world that would be football I suppose) or musical aptitude, why could we not screen for thinking ability, amassed general knowledge and innovative potential. Extravagant talent seldom shows up clearly in standardized testing. If left to people like myself (and that's the way it is now), we are going to identify some who do make it to a real university but what about those who don't? I have often speculated that the discards become talented criminals who loot the system which ignored their potential. In light of recent events in criminal capitalist excess, I am reinforced in my beliefs.

Step back from the particulars for awhile and think about the generalities such as a) a sense of personal security that comes from knowing that you will be treated no matter what, b) the total absence of necessity for a special set of savings, or big line of credit, for paying large and unanticipated medical bills, c) easy mobility between jobs and jurisdictions not impaired by medical insurance constraints, and perhaps more aspects which would never occur to me because I live in them as normality. All in all, it makes for healthier and perhaps even happier and better adjusted human beings less fearful of the risks inherent in life. Now ask yourself who in their right mind could be opposed to that and why. To me, only a vicious political ideology driven deep into childish minds to remain for life could do that sort of thing. For the sake of all Americans I would hope that the reign of fear the current "system" engenders will soon end. It is simply abominable. C'est ca.

The truth of the matter is that individuals seldom if ever change their minds, they just die out much as the prohibitionists did. That flckr baby was left in the onesie overnight. Kind of like putting a baby in an Aerosmith t-shirt to sleep in, you just would’nt do it. As a new parent, you should avoid putting kids in printed clothing overnight. It’s pretty basic baby care - kids can’t move themselves when they are really young and this baby was left on its stomach overnight and it’s skin got irritated from the lack of breathability of the screened image. Could be a latex / vinyl allergy as well.

Does it make sense to do the following?

whenever a password is created-
1) generate have a 'fixed' seed table for each password char (random seeds per char... can be 2-20 seeds for a 1 char password)
2) append seed to password (in any variation)
3) generate hash, append the number of seeds used per char in clear.
4) hash with MD5 for the fun of it.

so whenever the server has to decrypt, it has to recreate the table based on number of seeds and do a brute force itself to derive at the password. }:)

Then we can simulate the web version of "Windows Loading".

Really nice discovery and analysis. I found out that my nikon 18-135 lens also gives incorrect distance information. For distance less than 3.98m, it reports correctly. For distance more than 3.98m, it always reports 3.98m.

I have checked some pictures taken by other people using this nikon 18-135 lens. They share the same problem. If fact I haven't found out any sample taken by this lens with recorded focus distance larger than 3.98m.

No, I haven't noticed any under-exposure because I bought SB600 just recently. Before that, I used the D80 build-in flash which has a guide number of 13. Given the max aperture f/3.5 of the lens, the built-in flash only reaches 3.71m. So 3.98m is beyond its capacity anyway.

I will do some test using my SB600, and let you know the result.

siccome c'è un bug che non permette di far funzionare il software su processori che non supportano le estensioni sse2 (nell'esempio le auto con i problemi alle ruote) allora continuano lo sviluppo usando gli areei (processori con supporto alle istruzioni sse2)

Hei anche qui viene valutata l'usabilità, i progettisti perderebbero solo tempo se non facessero qualcosa di usabile.
Evidentemente il target utente o le finalità sono diverse.
Un' usabilità maggiore sarebbe troppo dispendiosa da ottenere pertanto si progetta una usabilità minimale.

Che target di utenti vuole raggiungere un desktop... e quindi che usabilità deve garantire ?
Al giorno d' oggi pensiamo che il computer viene assimilato dalla stragrande maggioranza di potenziali utenti piu o meno ad elettrodomestico.

Comparandolo con Windows, ritengo che un Linux con un desktop environment Gnome sia più semplice da usarsi: a patto che sia già installato e configurato.

Per Linux fra i potenziali utenti c'e' ancora un retaggio culturale che fa' ritenere questo sistema esoterico, difficile, che presuppone studio.
Solitamente chi ha sentito parlare di Linux a volte non ha nemmeno il concetto di distribuzione e non conosce i diversi DE presenti ed è restio ad usarlo per paura di essere incapace ad installarlo o semplicemente per pigrizia o più semplicemente per mancanza di iniziativa.

Ribandendo il concetto di usabilità, per un sistema operativo l' usabilità ricomprende anche la facilità di poterlo usare senza difficoltà su un pc.
Il peggior gap di Linux rispetto ad un sistema preinstallato è semplicemente la sua pronta disponibilità all'utente finale, semplicemente perchè non è pre installato.

In any case, as you yourself stated, "“of course, the movie’s stupid, what did you expect?”" are you expecting fucking Shakespearean prose? Some film school jockie who does everything a film critic such as yourself or Rogert Ebert masturbates to? You got a summer blockbuster. Deal with it.

I will say one thing about this movie is that there are, admittedly a lot of continuity holes. Something that just even doing a basic read-through of the script could have fixed, but for all the general fuckery moments, the robot action was simply amazing. Face it: guys like robots and explosions. Fuck all else. Fuck cohesiveness, fuck dialogue, fuck making sense. If there are robots and explosions, IT WILL SELL.

"SOS" indicates that the device is outside of coverage area and is in an area where your carrier does not have a roaming agreement.
Attempt to register the device once you are within the coverage area.
NOTE: Attempting to register the device on the network may help force a successful attach to "GPRS" or "EDGE".
If "SOS" displays on the device and the device is within the coverage area, remove the SIM card from the device, reinsert the SIM card, and power the device back on.
If the device still does not display "GPRS" or "EDGE", confirm the Network Selection Mode is set to "Automatic" on the handheld.
If the device continues to display SOS, please contact your Carrier's Customer Care.

Also, if i pause my zune and skip forward a track, the zune does not stay paused; it starts playing the next track even though the pause icon is still in the bottom right hand corner of the screen.

hmm.. i don't think this is a streamyx problem. sounds like a phone line problem... have you tried picking up the phone when you can't go online? I used to have some problems when it rained and i couldn't go online (even slight drizzle). turns out the phone wire from the pole was worn out and it would slighly short when it rain thus giving out loads of background noise and screwing up streamyx.

Dude, have you checked your adsl modem logs? Sometimes you are able to connect to streamyx but their dns server screws up so you can't surf. Has happened to me quite often. Especially the 2xx.xxx.xxx.xxx dns server

I can't believe that i'm the first one to say this, but:

Why not just turn the power off at the wall? I've got my stuff plugged into a powerstrip which is placed in one socket. When i'm not using the computer, I turn it off. I don't think it could get more simple than that.

Cherry Beach used to be the place in the 1940s and 50s and earlier for all I know where Toronto's murdered bodies were anonymously dumped for the authorities to dispose of. It was a post-industrial wasteland in all respects. In fact, the mere mention of Cherry Beach was sufficient for a yucky recoil reaction amongst the Rosedale nobility. A wouldn't-be-caught-dead-in location with unsavory connotations. Possibly, it still is.
