Bayern should have won this game. From what I can see, they were the dominant team, creating more chances, plus Lyon's best chances and goal came off of set pieces. Bayern also should have had a penalty kick in the first half. Nevertheless, a well played game.

The home nations suck right now. I'm a Scotland fan and I would like to say that they are the best British team right now, especially after their performance in the qualifiers for Euro 2008, but Burley hasn't been doing well so far, and the label of being the best British team doesn't mean much right now anyways.

As a Chelsea fan I am pleased with the win, but I must say that I hope the defense tightens up a bit; they looked vulnerable. Also, congrats to Wigan on a good game, they are a dangerous team right now. I'm looking forward to a good season!

um, newsflash buddy, you are NOT currently the reigning world champions and it has been several years since you held that title. My original comment that Brazil IS overrated is based on the current team, which is why I said "Brazil IS overrated," and not, "Brazil WAS overrated." The current Brazilian team does not deserve the rather high rankings that it is still receiving. All Brazil fans seem to still be stuck on past glory that ended over half a decade ago.

Pretty sure Brazil just got hammered by Argentina 3-0. So Brazil still doesn't have a gold medal, lost to the first good team they played, and has had rather poor results for the past few years. Overrated? Definitely.

Italy is not the perfect team, but at least they don't embarass themselves and then claim they are the best in the world. When they lost to the Netherlands in Euro 2008, they were missing their best player, and Holland's first goal was arguably offside. Luca Toni scored a perfectly legitimate goal against Romania that was deemed offside. Italy went on to beat France and then lose in a shootout to the eventual champions. You call that a poor performance?

I rest my case.

The indication of how good a team is comes from overall performance, not individual games. Brazil is playing well in the olympics so far, but they have yet to play a team that is actually good (and, for that matter, to actually win the gold medal). Italy's loss to Belgium doesn't change the fact that Italy's performance over the past several years has greatly exceeded that of Brazil. I mean, seriously, who loses to Venezuela?

Um, what teams are you talking about? Italy WON the most difficult qualifying group for Euro 2008 while losing only one match in the process. At Euro they made it out of the most difficult group and lost in a shootout to the eventual champions, and currently the number 1 ranked team. Over the past few years Italy has defeated teams like Portugal, Ukraine, Scotland. What has Brazil done? Well, let's see. They lost to Venezuala and Paraguay and Portugal. They barely beat Sweden and Ireland and Switzerland. These are all rather embarassing results. Don't you feel silly now?

WEAK! That goal was an own goal! It wasn't even in! It went off the crossbar then off the post and probably would have gone back out or could have been cleared off the line! Well, a momentary lapse in concentration can often lead to poor defending...

Ok, who was the keeper for AC Milan? If they actually had a GOOD keeper like Buffon or Cech or someone, I think Chelsea would have been held to just one or two goals. Seriously, I could have kept the score line lower.

I love the Viola, but hats off to Barcelona for a good performance. They got some really tough shots in there that most other teams would have missed.

Umm, I'm not sure what game you were watching, but I'm pretty sure that Lehmann actually had two saves, and it's not like Almunia did any better than Lehmann, especially considering the fact that Arsenal's first goal (the momentum shifter) was offside and should have been disallowed.

I believe that this shows how soccer is still struggling in the US. Think about it. I'm not trying to be a pessimist or to put anyone down, I just think that the BEST of the MLS should be able to achieve more than a one goal win off of a penalty against an average club team.

I agree with you for the most part, although I wouldn't call Ballack's nudge a "major infraction." The officials have been less than impressive in this tournament, and yes, even though I am an Italy fan, I will readily admit that Italy got away with a lot against Spain.

They didnt say that australia were the better team, they were just sayin tht it took a bull**** decision from the ref to get them through that game. and haha if u seriously think that was a penalty back then…then spain should’ve had three in the first half of this game.

Dude, use your eyes. This is exactly what I mean when I say that people are so biased against Italy they will believe anything negative about the Italians. Watch the clip. Did the Aussie touch the ball at all? No. If you watch very closely, you will see that the Aussie's (forgive me, I do not recall his name) left arms went up and definitely made contact with Grosso's leg, which is when he went down.

Everyone who has posted an anti-Italy comment is simply proving my earlier point. Has any Italian fan attacked Spain? I haven't seen any such comments here. Whether we win or lose, Italy is asaulted, usually without cause or provokation. So much for sportsmanship huh?
