in GOP blocks higher taxes on oil companies on The New Mexico Independent
Of course it will raise taxes, not a bad thing if the money was spent on developing alternative energy. As for increasing imports, I don't by it.

in Iglesias’ tell-all book is out on The New Mexico Independent
It won't have any play in the Republican primary. If Pearce went after Wilson on this it would also look like an attack on Pete. Now if Pete came out right before the primary and endorsed Wilson, Pearce could use it as another example of Pete trying to save Wilson's career.

in Poll: GOP Senate primary a nail biter on The New Mexico Independent
Lets not forget the Madrid debate debacle. That changed everything. Madrid won the early voting ballots, something Wilson could count on election after election. Wilson won the walk up vote.
My guess is that the southern vote is underestimated in the poll. Pearce by 8 is more likely.

When David came forward things really steamrolled. The US Attorney story was being pushed by bloggers, Talking Points Memo, on the left. The story was all but ignored by the mainstream media. The only media outlet even reporting on it was McClatchy, formerly Reuters. He pushed it into the mainstream media.
Many have lost faith in the MSM's ability to report on meaningful stories. Someday we will rely on outlets like New Mexico Independent for news. The truth has no political affiliation. Truth is independent of politics.

in Democratic tsunami? on The New Mexico Independent
It may just come down to a money game. What happened in Illinois, Louisiana and Mississippi may change where the Republicans draw their line in the sand. The RNCC spent millions on those three races. We assumed the Republicans would be defending seats like district 1. They may now be defending seats like district 2. Their best call may be lose the foot in order to save the leg.

in Wilson v. Pearce: The gloves are off on The New Mexico Independent
I don't get why they continue to say Heather is more electable, since Pearce has received more Democratic votes in the last two elections. I think he has a greater chance at beating Udall. He can do strong enough down south to offset his losses in Districts 1 and 3. Heather could only hope to split her own district in a statewide race.
The battle in the state GOP is Albuquerque leadership versus the rest of the state. If Pearce wins the nomination, win or lose in the GE, will in fact become the leader of the party. He becomes the front runner for the GOP nod for Governor. I think after this Senate run he will become a stronger candidate in 2010.
Pat Lyons is the only Republican currently holding statewide office. The state Republicans down south have worked hard for the party as well a those Republicans in the four corners area.
It is time to move the GOP party leadership outside of Albuquerque. This state deserves two strong parties.
