Obviously I haven't played with SquareConnect's stuff but Isaw a demo from ioBridge lastnight and it seems the way to go. (no, I don't work for them.)

They've got a device which is more flexible that can control IR receivers, transmitters, servos, etc.

With their controller platform you can build web widgets to embed anywhere. It'd be pretty simple to build the widgets and make a webpage (public or private) to control the IR transmitter and then it's controllable from an iphone or any thing else.

I guess it doesn't fit into the "big brother nelson rating" space like S.C.'s does but personally I'm happier w/ a bit of DIY anonymity.

Re: Video: Researchers release tool for hacking user-generated content sites

Sounds interesting but I couldn't take the interviewer constantly "mmm hum"-ing in the background.
Like he was so anxious just to ask the next Q on his list...

Re: Connecting First and Second Life

You should check out iobridge. It's basically arduino w/ all the embedded stuff worked out. You can goto their website and see your board and I/O devices and they've got embeddable widgets which would be perfect to use in SL.

Re: Google’s New Layout: Love it or Hate It?

I'll just say that I don't think the left indentation is useless.
As someone who doesn't run their browser's fullscreen (I make it more like a page width) I hate it when things are bumped up all the way against the window border.

Re: Hello world from my iPhone

Yea,
It's more like twitter for wordpress then it is a true XML-RPC wordpress client.
Still a good 1st start, and you can indeed attach pictures, it's just not "obvious".

When you're editing a post take some pictures (or add them from your library) and they'll get sent along w/ the post. But they're attached @ the bottom, nothing fancy, see; http://blog.thecapacity.org/2008/07/22/posting-...

As for admining WP, I set it up to email me and use the links from the email to approve / spam comments, etc... It's not ideal but since it's usually / mostly a "yes / no" statement on those then it's ok.

The iPhone admin plugin would be worth a try.

Re: Using Twitter to Remote Control Your Home's Lights

I've seen some of this before. Unfortunately the HW platforms (and all the network setup etc) seem too daunting for me.

A friend of mine showed me a board from ioBridge recently and it handles a lot of the network stuff for you.

I've got to accumulate the servos and sensors first but i love the way technology is finally allowing us to _interact_ w/o being forced to only use a mouse and keyboard!
