Now I get to it, I see that you are already planning to do what I was going to suggest - getting them to plan a lesson.

Is the audience too disparate to create groups of teachers from the same subjects? It would be great if they could bring along a real topic they are about to teach and then work on how the whiteboards could enhance the teaching and learning for that topic. The key, if we agree with what the DFES study says, is to keep the focus on learning and teaching methodology rather than on technology. Low level use of whiteboards might sound like "how could we use that drag and drop thing here" whereas high level use would sound more like "we should incorporate an opportunity for peer assessment here - could the whiteboard help with that?"

Re: Sufjan Stevens @ the Riviera, Chicago, IL

Argh - I'm green with envy. I'm from the UK, and the two shows in Britain are sold out. Glad you had a good time though :)

Re: Emotional truancy

Unless my school experience was radically different from the norm, it has ever been thus! When was school ever really relevant to real life? I think we devalue genuine arguments against the institution of schools when we try to present them as somehow being new and related to technology.

Re: 10 ‘Home Truths’ about Schooling and Education

Interesting list Doug. I agree with most of it, and share your frustrations, but

2. Disagree completely. I've been affected profoundly by people that I have met only once.

Re: Why as an educator you should care about Open Source Software

I do indeed use it Doug. I have kubuntu running on my desktop at home. I also write open source software - FreeMIS is my woefully incomplete attempt to write a replacement for proprietary school MIS systems, and Scotedublogs aggregates the edublogosphere north of the border :-)

I would also recommend http://www.schooforge.org.uk if you want to get involed in the community.
