John, I was the same as you with the shot of the house exploding, probably because there could have been people in that house. I also struggle with the aerial shots that clearly show the blue body bags, but maybe I've not got the right constitution.
As for the Ch9 Sunday extra news coverage, yes, I agree, I thought it was excellently done, poor Hitch looked very upset, and I don't blame him, he knew he'd lost a friend and mentor, but to their credit, Ch9 didn't play up that angle at all. My only criticism of the coverage was one of the reporters standing in front of the flames at a Kinglake? petrol station. I mean really, the flames were clearly in the background to evoke emotion, but what idiot stands out the front of a burning petrol station?!?!?!
And although this is certainly a rarity, I must also praise A Current Affair's coverage on Monday, ordinarily if I somehow see any of this show I'm ranting at the tv along the lines of 'this is current affairs' or 'that is so biased it's not funny' etc. etc. but they did a story with the guy who had videoed just after the fire front had passed, and then checked every single house, and you could tell, he knew how many and in some cases who, had not made it... but they didn't sensationalise or force the point, it was really well handled and edited, especially when his wife realised he'd seen some people that she was still unsure about how they were. Really excellent coverage, and something that ACA should aspire too more often. (But I know that they won't).

The Life and Times of Tim: When he says, "yeah, the spank kind of got away from me" that is easily the greatest line I've ever heard.... (although it cannot be used without context!)
Thanks for the heads up, Tim's a pretty good show.....

Wipeout, the shame of it...... sorry all, but man falls over is not funny, it is lowest common denominator 'humour'.
I felt dirty just listening to that part of the podcast, this should never be mentioned again...... shame that shall not be named.

in Ep 148: Lawrence Mooney, James Talia, Very Small Business on Boxcutters - An Australian TV Podcast
Watched the 2nd of Ep. of Rush last night, now during/after Ep 1. I was squarely in Josh's camp on this, I thought it was ok. I tried watching it with a little more Brett-eye (Brett-eye - where you are just waiting for her to use the term prodigal or Samaritan) last night and did notice two real glaring script issues, one was the mother talked exactly like a cop in regards to 'talking her daughter down' and then I had a real problem with the joke right at the end of a pretty tough episode, not sure what they were thinking. But anyway, I still like it, and think it is an ok cop procedural.
Now, I've been wanting to say this for a bit, and I think it is time, is Ross actually coming back? I'd apply to be the new Boxcutter if he wasn't, although I don't sound enough like Brett - and let's be honest, every special guest has and would be better than me..... but I really wanted to ask if Ross is planning to return?

Yeah, I had to go Byte-into-IT officially, and Boxcutters as a sort of side note. I was surprised I couldn't easily subscribe, after all they did get a mention in the latest Trip mag! ;)

The SBS Olympics: As far as I'm aware, they paid around 40mil? to be the 'complementary broadcaster' - the rules are that they can only show team sports and no Australian teams, unless specifically permitted by Ch7 (thankfully they were for the Olyroos vs Argentina). So basically they'll show any team event that they can. My IQ2 is taping every indoor volleyball game that they are showing! ;)
Thankfully Ch9 have the rights from now on, and they can only do better. Anyone heard of multi-casting?

I saw it!
The wacky add with the walking horshoe!
It's for Intralot, the luck factory.
How insane, it was like the Wonka factory, billowing orange smoke, they had leprechauns, horshoes, there was a village people-style american indian and cowboys (I think) at one point, it was extremely weird..... can't wait to see what the Gruen Transfer tells me about it! :)

Yeah, I'm of the same opinion with the credits, it is just a ploy to suck you into the next show, so you start watching.
Of course it has the negative effect of if you are watching something on another channel, and you flick over to a show that has already started, my uneducated guess is that you are more likely to return to the first channel than persist with something you've missed the start of.

The Ch7 footy and going straight into the news... (and not showing the team sing the song, or malthouse crying ;) -- isn't about advertising, but making viewers stay on with the Ch7 news. It is a disgrace, especially since it is the media that has placed the increasing emphasis on the song being sung, this never used to be the case as I recall it.
As an interesting note, if you watch the replay on Foxtel, they sometimes show the song, (I saw this after watching a Dogs game on Ch7, then taping the replay on Foxtel) which means that Ch7 film it, they just choose not to show it.

Josh, I think the main reason that TT didn't 'adopt' a meals-on-wheels or volunteering is a very simple one, this way they can advertise the show to not only the volunteers, but to the pensioners themselves, who'll want to watch what is going on. This drags the blue-rinse set away from ACA and to TT in the attempt to increase ratings.......
Cynical I know, but if you watch either of these shows just once, it's bound to infect you!

This ep made me the saddest ever....
I can just visualise poor little Josh in his florescent yellow monster house t-shirt, with matching cap, sitting on his couch.... waiting for his favourite show to start, leaning forward in anticipation, sitting through all those adds on ch9 for other shows on ch9..... and the look on his face when it doesn't come on...... the re-check of the tv guide, the quick check of the calendar to make sure it is the right day........ but alas no monster house for Josh......
won't anyone think of the Josh?

Just to throw a spanner into the techy works, my itunes hasn't had any problems at all and I continue to get the new eps. (Not sure about the logo, I'll check)
As for James, I have a very different recollection of the Marieke Hardy incident... she will always be my 4th Boxcutter. :)

I think Ray is a little past his use-by date, so we don't really care!
That said, my friend linked his blog into the John Safran vs Ray Martin video here:

Incidentally, Safran was the reason I started listening to Boxcutters, back at ep. 4 :)

in Boxcutters Episode 114 on Boxcutters - An Australian TV Podcast
On product placement, I was interested to note that after watching an episode of the US Office, where they all played Call of Duty against each other after work, that promotional 'something' had been paid by Activision.... and to be honest, if it wasn't for that in the credits, I would have missed it completely as product placement....

in Daryl Somers will not host next season of StarDancers on Boxcutters - An Australian TV Podcast
I think another reason may be that they didn't pick up his pitch of the 'New Hey Hey it's Saturday!'. I can't recall where I heard this (it may well have been the boxcutters!) but I heard that Ch7 kept alluding to him that they wanted to pick it up to keep him interested in Star Dancers, but in reality had no intention of a new Hey Hey!
So it will be the short ex-sunrise weatherman then?

The Laser technology was a scam, when that was announced, the company who thought they could make it was about to float on the Australian stockmarket! I could be incorrect, but my understanding was that the technology wasn't close to being ready!
Also, I'll admit, I use the deeper voice as the distinction, and it would help if Brett didn't get excited :)

I flicked around, settling for the ABC, but you think Sky was early, channel 9 was (and I kid you not, this was the graphic they used) running Howard's picture through a shredder before 8 saying he'd lost his seat! That said, they ran Turnbull at the same time through it too.
Yeah, the crowd at the ABC was pretty annoying, they also went nuts when the ALP got the 76 seat. I did like Kerry O'Keefe defending the accused 'Labor rent a crowd' by saying, no they are probably cheering the Chaser boys who are up to something down there.....;)
