Evidently the RIAA isn’t familiar with Kazaa’s unique and not-so-unique evils.

Oh, I think they are and they know what they are doing.

Sounds like a good book to me. Agnostic though I am, I applaud any measure by Christians to clean up their act. The whole homosexual issue is a classic example of people reading their own prejudices into the Bible rather than struggling to be the saints that the New Testament calls on them to be. All too often George Bernard Shaw is right: "Christianity might be a good thing if anyone ever tried it." I applaud your thinking about what it truly means to follow the way of Christ.

Professionals are permitted to ~treat~ people with disorders. They do not, however, have a corner on the market of discerning mental illness in others. I find Murray's posts quite disturbing and reason for alarm by those who knew him. The adolescent nature of web communications lead to no one challenging his thinking in the name of Free Speech. So he kept going, empowered by a firey religiosity that led him to pick up a gun and go after a crowd.

Grohl should give you a break -- if he has his own opinions shaped by his professional experience, he should give it. Instead, he turns pollyanna, whining about how his turf has been invaded by an amateur -- forgetting, of course, that most mental illness is first identified by amateurs.

Karoli Well said. And if not for amateurs identifying mental illness, the professionals would have a real problem, since they can't go out and solicit their business.

waderocket, that sounds to me like a runaround rather than a valid argument. "It's not written by God, but it is God's Word. Even where it says it is not or obviously is not."

We believe that the Bible is the word of God, but we also agree that we do not understand it fully, particularly when placed into historical context.

A good set of principles except this one, which is problematic due to the fact that there are passages in the epistles of Paul which explicitly state that they are ~not~ the word of God. Furthermore, the Psalms are prayers addressed ~to~ God and much of the Bible is narrative.

Suggest that you appreciate the ~influence~ of God in the Bible bearing in mind that it is a human document and subject to human error in its compilation.

waderockett Joel, whether that's problematic or not depends on what someone means by "the word of God." For example, the Psalms addressed to God, and the passages of Paul's that represent his thoughts and not official church teaching, could be viewed as the word of God in that they contain things that God wants us to know about Life, the Universe, and Everything. They aren't divine dictation, but they are a divine communication delivered to us through human agency. That's me own way of understanding the Bible as God's word, but there are many other ways of understanding it that run the gamut of belief and opinion.

in Is Lori Drew Still Aiming at Megan Meier? on odd time signatures
The "it wasn't anyone's fault except Megan's" is a canned line that grief counselors like to use. It's an example of legalism invading psychology. I am sure that it has a good purpose -- helping those who didn't see it coming or who had had cross words with her lately -- but Lori Drew's campaign was calculated and cold-hearted.

There may be a remedy under the telecommunications laws of this nation. I think Lori Drew should be held accountable and the grief counselor reined in.

Here are the actual police reports:

A lawyer friend suggests that Drew violated the federal telecommunications act. The local prosecutor may be able to do nothing, but the District Attorney can be unleashed.

We are deeply concerned by the emaciated appearance of the Patrol Cat depicted in the photo. As active combatants in the War on Terrier, we call for the immediate airlift of large quantities of cat food to the vincinity. This is clearly a case of Feline Rights Violations. As alternative, your owner should consider the release of mice. This will not only provide food for the starving kitties but also recreation and exercise.

We accept your declaration to be uninterested in cat food. We have, however, a new concern. Many of our cat toys have gone missing. We have searched high and low for them. Most missed is Tiger Tail. We call on you to engage in an immediate search of your home. If you should find Tiger Tail, we demand its immediate return.

If you do not comply with this reasonable ultimatum, we will be forced to invade.

My cats are very unhappy with this attempt by a DOG to embezzle some of the love which is rightfully their's. They have asked me to request a sanction against your site (I have refused to do so) and enact an embargo preventing your DOG from eating any catfood which could have gone to them. I did say that in the latter instance I probably could get some kind of promise from you that you would not feed your DOG cat food. They are appeased by this and by the catnip I gave them. I do warn you that if your DOG should show up near us, they will be forced to scratch its nose and pee in your flowers.

Please do not say that any kind of DOG may be taken and/or substituted for a cat. Bast listens to everything and will punish you in the afterlife if you do not repent this grievous sin. ;)
