Well college football is by far more popular than college basketball and the sport of american football is definitely more of a "rural white farmer" or "all-american" type of game. In college basketball it is a game that has a majority black players and small private (and liberal) schools (dook university) can easily succeed. I don't think it is a matter of black and white, more like a matter of haves and have-nots. The schools that succeed in college football are the giant public schools with big money to spend while the rest of the schools basically settle for college basketball as their money sport. Which is why the majority of the Big East and ACC schools rule in basketball and retarded rural area schools like the SEC or rural Big Ten rule in football.

Outside of Chelsea I'll be rooting for Aston Villa as well. It would really be something to see one of England's more traditionally successful clubs come back to the top. Birmingham deserves a winner.

the hawk-eye system is not perfect either. that is why it should not always be relied upon, only when there is a challenge or question on the ruling.

of course tennis, rugby and cricket are too i didn't say they were not. but you don't see them played by the shear number of people as soccer. to change a certain rule in soccer, even if it affects just the professional level will be a massive and COSTLY under-taking that not all leagues, countries and federations could afford.

thing with soccer is it is a global game and will take a massive under-taking at all relevant professional levels including rich, poor or whatever have you.

Only reason I watch FSC is for Bobby McMahon. They REALLY need to utilize his talent more on other programming. I don't understand why FSC didn't have a correspondent at the Euro's or even a Euro wrap-up show to compete with ESPN's. When the networks begin to compete then you will see better programming, otherwise we'll be stuck with crap, I believe.

Gaffer, only you would rant against FSC based on a completely unscientific poll. Which you fail to mention is such. I do feel you have a point though but it isn't as heightened as you make it out to be. Fox doesn't need marathons of old matches, nobody watches those. What they do need is better talent and programming like Fox Soccer Report or Fox Football Fone-In but throughout the day and throughout the year. This will keep the viewers.

You are wrong Vedran. ESPN is owned by Disney just like ABC and you can't just say that ESPN has the power to push network programming aside for European soccer. EURO 2008 does not belong on American network television, there is not relevance. Keep it on ESPN, which has quite a large spread throughout the country, and soccer will do just fine. I wish they would show USMNT matches on network television though.

I've been saying this for years. ESPN has always had the power but they choose to broadcast a-holes like Jim Rome and Kornheiser. ESPN is such a powerful name in sports, there is really nowhere else the consumer can turn for a sports fix. ESPN can single-handedly force soccer down American's throats and we will do nothing but ask for seconds.
