in Is this the first vlog post EVER? on the martini shaker*
The overall process was pretty crude. I captured my video on an 8mm Sony Handycam and then captured into the computer using an Iomega Buz.
I edited in Adobe Premiere, exported to Quicktime and then used Media Cleaner Pro to compress two Windows Media files, one optimized for 56k (!) and another for 300k.
After that, I'd just upload the files to my server and link them up on my "pure drivel" page that I maintained on my site until 2001 or so. Eventually page went away and became this blog some time in 2003.

in Respect: Pedal Steel Guitar on the martini shaker*
I've got years of experience with guitar and can easily sing the parts I hear.
I guess it all comes down to an intimidating looking instrument coupled with a friend who once said "Dude, pedal steel is crazy tough. Unless you plan on being a serious performer, I'm not sure why you'd pick it up."
That's my take on it.

I plan on posting a series of photos in the near future that chronicle this project. For now, the floor is still a little wet, so once it dries, I'll get those pictures taken.

Oy sethy, you need to turn on your TV for something other than zombies and football. :)
Seriously though, give it a chance. I think it would be right up your alley.

I'll bring some misogyny and inappropriate sexual innuendo if someone else gets the booze.

Beautiful. I missed it in AdRants cause I haven't read it much lately.
I have got to have a basement that looks like that hero photo... Swanktastic.

I've been quite pleased with it. I can't give an educated review about how it sounds since I have everything hooked up to a home theater system. However, the picture is great, even on SD channels.
Really, I bought the sucker based pretty much on price. It looked good, was around $1000, and would fit over the fireplace in the new house.
I got a wild hair up my ass last week and sold a bunch of this and that on craigslist and bought a 26" Insignia LCD for the bedroom. For a $399 HD LCD, it's pretty good too. It doesn't have digital cable on it, but it's been able to pick up digital channels over the air, and they look just as good as on the 42" in the living room.
I think I'm going to sell my old TV and get another one of those for the basement.

Nice. I was touched that Arnold Schwarzenegger from Commando was dreaming of just a little bit more.

Actually, I'm quite a way north... off Highway 291 (Cookingham) near Liberty.
And yes, there will be a tiki bar either in the basement or on the walk-out patio adjoining it.

Quite coincidentally, I wrote a post on my site about my problems with Alexa on the same day that the plugin was released.
Hasn't done anything to bring my site out of the Alexa sewer :)

in Why are we still using Alexa Rankings? on the martini shaker*
But even then, surely you have to agree that you take that information with a grain of salt... that is to say that you would assume that the actual traffic would potentially be far greater than what it's measuring.
I think that Alexa would be far more successful if they went with a Javascript include so that the responsibility falls on site owners instead of asking their visitors to install some toolbar that most people would associate with spyware in the first place.

I hear ya, Lucas. I just got a Treo 755p this weekend and it's a nice upgrade from my Treo 650. It'll be able to tide me over until iPhone 3.0 comes out on the Sprint network 5 or so years from now.

That was a bad headline. It should read "Art + Copy Clubbers Don't Forget To Vote."

in Mac vs. PC… Good question? Not really. on the martini shaker*
Well, there you go... great minds and all that. I got an email reply from Jeff Vaughan that said, "this topic was too technical for a two minute piece, so I had to keep it simple, and fun. If we have a re-match I will consider your thoughts."
While I can appreciate that position, seriously, there were many better ways to research or present the information. In the end there should have been a winner (based on more substantial questions, mind you), not some non-controversial draw.

I also realized on the cost front I could have cited Alienware machines or the Dell XPS line of machines that cost as much as a Mac Pro (approx. $3000). It just seemed like there was no homework done whatsoever.

in “Camping out” for a Wii in May on the martini shaker*
I can say that I have been nothing but impressed so far with what the Wii has had to offer. Of course, there's plenty of places it can go that this generation of the console may or may not be built to handle, but it's certainly a big part of the future of gaming.
As for golf, "Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07":http://www.easports.com/wiiplaytigerwoods07/home.jsp on the Wii is a really good adaptation of the game. I'm really looking forward to "Brunswick Bowling":http://www.1pstart.com/new-screens-brunswick-bowling-for-wii/, which *may* be coming out this month. I can't seem to find a definitive answer online.
The Wii Sports version of bowling is pretty awesome on its own. Can't wait to see what a little extra detail will add to the game.
Looking for something to make you work up more of a sweat than what Wii Sports: Tennis offers? "Dance Dance Revolution Hottest Party":http://www.konami.com/Konami/ctl3810/cp20107/si2247391/cl1/ looks like it will be out in September. Later this year, EA will release "Boogie":http://wii.ign.com/objects/895/895468.html which will include a USB microphone so that you can karaoke while perfecting your dance moves.
I will admit that it looks like the one place where the Wii is sorely lacking at this moment is online head-to-head play. The console has built-in WiFi, so why not utilize it for something other than system updates and data for the weather/news channels? I read that the first online title, "Pokemon Battle Revolution":http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pok%C3%A9mon_Battle_Revolution, should be out some time this summer. Hopefully that will signal good things to come.
