in Just Stop It Already! on Word and Verse
Hey brother, a friend of mine was in a vicious cycle of sin and she got out of it after listening to Joyce Meyer. She didn't share with me the details though.
Last year, CHC invited Pst Joyce Meyer over. Curious, I decided to watch the sermon online.
And you know what? She convinced me that God will not let me be tempted beyond my ability. I've heard it and read it before, but her illustration (using a rocking chair) really dug in the concept for me.
I immediately broke out of my own cycle of sin too. Some people say she's a heretic. I don't understand why.

Thank you for sharing so openly, Karen. Your testimony is encouraging. What a wonderful God who persistently chases after the one sheep that's wandered.
Thanks!

in The Intensity of Christ’s Love and the Intentionality of His Death on Word and Verse
It hadn't occurred to me before how much determination it took for Jesus to die on the cross. I had always assumed that He just allowed it to happen.
But John Piper's right. Jesus was very intent on dying on the cross. His love is even deeper than I'd earlier thought.
I can not bow any lower.

Hey Daniel (Chew),
You are right, pastors should not be untouchable just because they're pastors. Thank you for teaching and correcting.

I'd just like to share that my biggest frustration here is not the prosperity gospel but that so many Christians claim to believe Jesus had died for their sins but do not believe the Bible is the powerful word of God.
They *never* read the Bible, and as such, they never discover the height and depth of God's majesty and love.
They never learn to discern what they are taught by their pastors. I think that is the bigger problem.
Sunday sermon is only once a week, but the Bible we can read every day. If we were to actually open the book and learn from it, we won't be swayed by prosperity gospels. Why are we just not reading?! Still even though a person may look like he is not growing, I know that God is working in him.
So... in the end I think I said nothing. Haha!

Hey there,
I agree with Miccheng on this. I dislike the prosperity gospel because a few of my beloved subscribe to it and I feel frustrated that they are just not maturing as Christians.
However, another friend from my church in Malaysia shared with me this story. A few youths from my church were planning a holiday to Sg and part of the plan was to visit another church here known for preaching the prosperity gospel.
When my Senior Pastor heard their plan, he quickly called them up for a meeting. He told them that he does not desire them to visit the church when they are in Singapore. They asked him why but he also refused to divulge his reason.
I have heard my Senior Pastor preach many times and one story he likes to share is about how David refused to murder Saul even though Saul was a terrible king because Saul is still God's anointed king for Israel.
A long time ago God chose Pst Kong Hee to plant CHC in Singapore. Though I do not always see eye to eye with Pst Kong Hee, I believe he is God's anointed and ought to be honored.

I've heard that Lucifer was the worship leader in heaven before the fall, and that he still have great influence on the music played and created in the earthly realm. Therefore it's important to separate what you allow your ears to hear.

in Conviction In Speech and Actions on Word and Verse
I've been meditating on this whole speaking the truth thing too. The day before yesterday, God spoke about being timely and yesterday the verse I received is of how discretion protects me.
I do believe that truth frees people from slavery, but my greater struggle is to speak piercing truth at the right place and the right time, as well as know when I'm overloading the information.

It seemed he followed every rule except the one about believing in Jesus as Lord and Savior. How ironic.
Question: Is choosing to believe the easiest or hardest rule to follow?

in How Many Versions Are There Anyway? on Word and Verse
Hey what wonderful news that your wife is so open! Praise GOD!
Personally, I love the Amplified Bible for night reading, but otherwise, the NIV is excellent. I carry a small "Counselor's NIV" which is just the Psalms and New Testament in my purse for light reading and sharing whenever.
