in fil-ter - Defending Elitism on fil-ter
Awesome article, however I feel that Newsweek gave it an inappropriate and misleading title. Particularly given the stigma against the word "atheist". Making it an "athiest attack" may diminish the message that...well...the bitch is crazy. Good read though.

Totally agree -- which is why I re-titled it. The points hold regardless of religion.

wow, this is quite an exchange. i may regret this later, but i wanna join in. my problem with tucker (and no offence shannon's but your argument as well) is that it is purely deflecting and then redirection the question at hand. and the answers given were not original, but straight out of talking points playbook. (full disclosure here, i love obama)

in Top Albums of the First Half of 2008 on fil-ter
The Virgins keep getting a ton of buzz, but I saw them play at the beginning of June and they were just not great live. Did not live up to the hype IMO. Not impressed with the new Roots or MMJ? MGMT and Black Mountain are getting good buzz and would also fit in with your list. I am digging the new atmosphere and be your own pet's get awkward/damaged as well. Girl Talk is simply amazing.

I found the Roots and MMJ albums to be a bit uneven, especially Evil Urges. Although I love a few of the tracks, it really just doesn't stand up well to Z.
I may have been a little unfair to Rising Down. It does have 6-7 great songs (and a particularly strong middle of the album), but got hurt by being uneven (there's some really bad stuff on there) and not holding up as well to their previous work (seriously, how could they open with that first track. really, really bad).
MGMT is OK in my book, but I prefer Cut Copy. I actually haven't heard Black Mountain, Atmosphere, or the others. I'm certain the list will change a lot by the end of the year anyway.

It has been quite a week of announcements for Lucasfilm, and nerds. Indy trailer, new star wars movie (animated) in theaters this summer, and...an Indiana Jones LEGO video game based on the original movies!

Very clever. I like how the narration moves along in sync in duelity. It is odd that they those for the creation video to take place in a scientific setting and the evolution video starts in a church and has a more preacher-like narration. It reminds me of the McFarlane animated music video for Pearl Jam's "Do the Evolution". Youtube it if you've never seen it. This is a very long comment, and I am sorry.

I'm gonna have to disagree about the bad acting thing about zooey deschanel. She does pick oddball roles, but she is good in serious roles, "all the real girls" for example.

I'm hesitant to even comment on this subject because it may get me in trouble, but it's too good to resist. The good doctor isn't saying that you should have sex 200 times a year, he's saying have 200 orgasms. You can interpret this anyway you like, but I think it is good news for men and maybe not so good news for some of the ladies.

Stop! It's too sexy! (to be read in the style of Chris Kattan impersonating Antonio Banderas on SNL)

Maybe bowls of salad ("The Phantom Lettuce"), or chips and pretzels ("The Empire Bites Snacks").
Any other ideas?
