in Why Mommy Blogging is No Longer a Radical Act on Suburban Turmoil
Mommy-blogging will be as radical as we make it. Stand up, Moms, and tell the truth! I prefer blogs that are authentic, and I hope advertisers hear me and hear the rest of you, too. Don't bother with perfection; we real moms don't believe it.

Good reasoning! Careful thought is important, as you said. I use a psuedonym mainly to protect my kids, but also because I have a very public job -- I teach.

in recession: the sound of settling on June Lin dot com
I graduated from college during Reaganomics. We "settled" for any job with a paycheck in order to pay the rent. I eventually saved up the money to go back to school, enhance my degree & certification, and enter my field. It wasn't pretty, but we always made ends meet.

The power of commercial jingles! I can still sing the Dr. Pepper jingle, the Pepsi Generation, and of course Coke's I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing. yes, i still drink too much soda and coffee.

chuck, are you on Plurk? I'm on both Twitter and Plurk. I prefer Plurk, but I still have a lot of friends on Twitter, so I'm unwilling to give it up just yet. Each site connects me with a different set of virtual friends.

@Daisy, I've visited Plurk once, but I'm not on it. My head is spinning a little at the mere thought of adding another social platform. I'm just getting warmed up to Twitter, but I promise I'll let you pitch me on Plurk in the not too distant future. ; )

in Penny-Wise, Pound-Foolish: Why It’s Almost Always About Winning on Chuck Westbrook's Blog
The golden rule applies here as well. I like your point that the ostentatious act is pound foolish. It reminds me of my friends who saved all the spare napkins from the fast food joints (pennywise) but never realized how much money they wasted by eating fast food so often.

Your sister was lucky to have you, too. I believe your kiddos will grow up to understand that you were protective because you loved them and worried about them. Oh, yes, and Mom will be the "cool" parent. :)

Love your hen and chickens! Mine didn't do that last year; they were too crowded, just sent out shoots off the side of the planter. I transplanted the shoots and they're doing great.
My cherry tomatoes look a lot like yours in these pics. I should be able to pick the first tomorrow -- or soon!
And that lettuce? We have pet rabbits. Mine never, ever gets a chance to get that big. :)

you're absolutely right on the toy. Just doesn't seem worth anything: no play value, not even a short time with fun. When our boy was young, we got him the "3 and under" toys long past his toddlerhood because regardless of the play value, they were safer.

Ah posting frerquency. I decided not to do Holidaillies this year because the everyday stress in my life was a little higher than usual. I post almost daily, but this way I was posting because I wanted to, which (I hope) will lead to improved content rather than self-enforced frequency.

in Attention Mainstream Media: Quit Comparing SoCa Fires to Katrina! on odd time signatures
Great post! FEMA is more ready now than they were, but that doesn't rebuild Katrina victims' homes. Police and Firefighters learned a lot from 9/11, too, but it doesn't make that terrible day less of a tragedy.
