in Paper and pencil on banannie
I'm with you, Annie! I still make my lists every day in a daily planner and am a "list maker" through and through. I also like pencils (super sharp) but will use pen as well. Regardless of what I use to make the list, I always check off in another color. Oh.. the silly things we do!

Thanks for this! I'm so glad that it really was what you said it was because I used it to help abort a migraine while at work today. Had I been expecting a meditative session and you delivered acid rock as an April Fool that would not have been good!

in Twitter Effect (one of many) on banannie
It's funny how different people are from one another. I've never written anything in my life that I've edited after the fact. I made it through 6 years of college and numerous papers that I edited as I went along. In fact, I have "writers block" unless I just sit and write right at the computer. (I used to have to make a "fake rough draft" complete with errors to hand in with my papers in high school as the rough draft was required...hehe!)

This is not to say that my writing couldn't stand some improvement and I probably *should* edit but it's just not something that I've ever done. The backspace is my friend ;-)!

in Twitter Revisited on Chris Brogan
Twitter is my "home base" these days. It's the first thing I open in the morning and with Tweetscan, I can search mrsb to see if there were any @replies that I've missed. I also use the DM feature every day.

I don't go back in the stream, just jump in and keep it running on my sidebar all day. I never "just Twitter". It's an open app that I glance at while doing other things. I've also used it to make new connections by clicking on others' @reply recipients.

Honestly, Twitter has become my main source of items to click on and read throughout the day. Even if I never get to open my Google Reader or email because I'm so busy, I still have a finger on the pulse of what's happening by clicking on the links provided by friends.

I love Twitter! :-)

Sounds wonderful! I hope you enjoy this quiet time with your family. Christmas Day has always been "our day" too. We do Christmas Eve with the whole family and then they get together again on Christmas Day for dinner.

When my kids were little, they would be up late on Christmas Eve, get up really early on Christmas morning, open their presents and just when they started to play with them, we'd whisk them away to get dressed up all fancy and head out for Christmas Dinner.

They'd be cranky and tired and that was the last place they wanted to be (and so was I!) One year, after hanging around uncomfortably full and wishing to be home in my flannels, I decided that enough was enough. I told the family the following year, "It's not that we don't love you and don't appreciate the invite but we're going to stay home on Christmas Day from now on."

It was the best decision that we've ever made. So, for the last dozen or so years, while everyone else is cooking and rushing and uncomfortable, the 4 of us lounge in our flannels, playing with Christmas toys, reading, drinking coffee, and relaxing. I make a ham dinner for us but it's not a big production. Inevitably, I get a call from one of my sisters-in-law asking about my day and when I tell them, they say "You're so lucky!" My response, "You can have this kind of day too, all you have to do is say the words."

Beautiful :-) The music was perfect and the trees are still full of color. We got quite a bit today in RI but it didn't stick. It was a nice touch to look outside and see the snow coming down as we were having our Thanksgiving dinner in the classroom at school.

Great tips! Now if I can only get my teenage son to take less than a 1/2 hour shower I'll be in business. For more tips on making your life more green, you may want to check out Dori and Val's podcast More Hip Than Hippie at http://morehipthanhippie.com I've been listening to them for years and although I'm not sure how they feel about Beer and Coffee, I know they're really into Beer and Chocolate ;-)

awww....no worries! Some days are just like that; and no matter how hard we try, can't fit everything in. (There's a reason why my blog is called The 25th Hour... and even at that, it's not enough!) Grab a cup of tea, put your feet up and relax. :-)

Thanks for sharing, Chris. Shows just one of the many reasons why I love being a New Englander. We've got mountains, forests, lakes and the ocean right at our door. (Great choice of music too.. brought a smile to my face today.)

Boy... can I even relate! And yes, I agree with Bluegrass Mama too; DD isn't any better than DS. If I leave the house for more than an hour or so and am not here to police them, I'm faced with exactly what you describe. Mine are well into the teen years... it gets better, when??

Not sure if anyone told you about Sweet Caroline but it's known as the Red Sox Anthem around here and they play it at every game. Of course, it's a sing-along in Fenway... heck...everywhere around here. so good, so good, so good....

Glad to hear that you're enjoying your time here. Weather permitting, I'll be taking the ferry with a friend this Friday, 7/13 to come to your show :-)

in Social Network Overdosing on banannie
I hear ya, sistah!! I feel exactly the same way. I DREAD when a new social network pops up. I end up getting an account but rarely visit and stick to my staples. I guess the reason why I end up joining is that fear that everyone will jump ship and I'll be left talking to myself all alone. Well... Twitter is the thing for me and I love my Flickr acct.

I have the others as well and don't have the time, energy or desire to bounce from network to network updating stuff. In light of Indepence Day... via la freedom to just say NO! hehee

in Why Join Another Social Network on Chris Brogan
Honestly, I dread it when a new social networking site emerges. I KNOW I'll end up joining it, not particularly because I want to but because that's where all my friends are and I don't want to be left behind talking to no one but myself if I don't. sigh......

I have accounts on them all but Twitter and Flickr are the ones that I use faithfully and check daily. All the rest, I join but don't really push or get that involved in. I read all of the email, and click on the links but I don't aggressively promote anything myself (just not enough time in my life as it is...) Of course, if everyone in my social circle abandons Twitter for Pownce, things will change and I'll go with the crowd so as not to be on the outside looking in...

Sounds like a great time!! My husband's family has a Family Picnic on the Saturday after the 4th of July each year filled with family, food, fun, and tradition. They are a very close group and it's great to see the younger generation getting in on the act as well.

My extended family gets together on Christmas Eve but over the years, the numbers have dwindled as we've all gotten married and many have moved away.

It's nice that you have a place big enough to accommodate everyone and that with it being a holiday weekend, many have an extra day for travel, etc.
