Definitely interesting research. It seems as though it takes something totally different to make a user take action (click) than it does to create brand awareness. Sooner or later, once the internet is fully integrated into everything we do, these two concepts will merge.

Even if yahoo buys AOL it'll become a Microsoft company sooner or later. Might as well go directly to them.

And as for Google, they may be in the bidding and we don't even know it. They came out of left field to snatch up some Yahoo stake when the MSFT deal was faltering. Could do the same here.

I think it really depends on how and when google slips this into a users results. if a user has to make a setting, most of the time they won't. If google automatically does this, then the industry will get interesting. A whole new set of rules that people have to make sure their sites jive to.

At least they're trying to continue improvement on their search engine, even if it's just the looks.

What they really need though is something that expands on the limitations of current search engines. Some innovation.

There does seem to be a few bugs to work out. If yahoo and microsoft can't over take Google there has to be a reason besides good search results.... It's become an everyday reference. Tivo doesn't offer as many options, movies, and space as most DVR systems, yet, you still tivo something, you don't dvr it???

It'll be tough to unseat a verb.

I use google maps on my motoQ all the time for driving directions on business trips. But walking directions is an even bigger help.

Sometimes I get stuck in a city walking around and have no idea where to go. Go stuff!

I just read the CNN Money article on Google and AA settling after a judge dismisses the case. Can anyone speak to how big this is for marketers that use phrases and other possible trademarks in advertisements to redirect to their sites?

Now can we be pretty much certain that Microsoft will buy Yahoo? I believe so.

What will this bring for the internet advertising world. More choices or just another bomb? My hopes is that they can leverage both companies ad network and provide some great choices for those of us publishing and advertising.

PS3>>> Significant yes, comparatively speaking. But worth a 10% decline in their stock price? I'm not so sure about that. This stock is being sold purely on emotion not on the fact that they are coming out with all these new products, increasing their distribution load (pageviews) and acquiring businesses that have no other choice but to increase profits.

I for one am glad they missed their mark. Now I can buy them at a discount.

Look at television. Isn't it the largest revenue generating advertising market? Internet is the fastest growing? Put the two together, what do you get...?

I think they just have to figure out a way to maximize their distribution channel. They're innovative. They'll figure out a way.

Corrupt or not, what a good purchase for Google. They now have the only company in Russia supplying ads to a rapidly growing advertising medium. Sounds pretty good to me. Can I buy more google?

I don't think this spells trouble at all. For one thing, everyone new it was coming. In tough times for businesses, what are you cutting first. Advertising. GOOG was bound to miss estimates sooner or later, I think it was impressive they didn't last time...


As for MSFT, well, they have to make some adjustments but still in the game. I just think this spells great buying opportunities for those who invest, nothing more for marketers and web entrepreneurs.

Maybe look for some new products and deals from the two companies to encourage more spending in areas that were hit.

Wow! Once again, and I may sound like a broken record, it's great to see Google (share holder) expanding it's grasp on the internet. Why not utilize all the users to build a better search engine? They need to show they have a plan for people to take them seriously as an independent. Needing to partner with Google to improve their search advertising doesn't really show strength. If they showed a plan for their advertising unit, or started making moves of their own to be a top player rather than settling for second fittle to Google, maybe then people would think they're for real.
