in ESPN Coverage Hits New Low With West Ham vs MLS All-Stars on EPL Talk
Point 1: The SportsCenter update is an across the ESPN spectrum so regardless of the sport the update happens.
Point 2: Yes I cannot argue with you at all. That was absolutely disgusting and did indeed make me sick. It was almost like the whole sequences was being done if only as a rib for someone at ESPN's benefit.
Points 3 and 4: Don't bother me at all.
Everyone by now should know what they are going to get with ESPN. Regardless if you keep screaming from the rafters, they will only look at you and go 'oh and exactly how much money do you make in a year'?

in Spain-Italy Most Watched Match So Far And Other ESPN Euro Ratings News on EPL Talk
J,
These numbers are meaningless? My friend I don't think so. What they tell us is there are plenty of people who are more than happy to watch the match from the comfort of their own home without being ripped off by beer prices, and tasteless overpriced food.
By the time it's all said and done, bar numbers don't add that much to the overall rating by the time it's all said and done.
Also, the last time I checked, the Nielsen Ratings ONLY COUNTED HOUSES, not bars/pubs/clubs/whatever the hell they are called today. If you want to start the 'official bar numbers', by all means do us all a favor and do so.
And let us not forget, advertisers don't give a rats behind about how many are watching from the local establishment. They care about who's actually going to watch the commercials. ESPN does as well because it's how they set their advertising rates.

in Euro 2008 Semi-Final Plagued By 17 Minutes Of TV Transmission Issues on EPL Talk
I can't fault Rae and Gray for doing what had to be an impossible job.
This is going to sound like a rediculous analogy, but it's almost like what happens when (and again I preface this by saying this is going to sound rediculous) professional wrestling does live to tape programming and then not even 24 hours later are in a studio doing retakes. You can tell when it's been done but you know there is nothing that can be done about it. At least Rae and Gray tried, which in this situation is all I ask of my presenters.
What gets me is why there wasn't a secondary production truck at the stadium. Not a full production, but just enough basic camera shots to get through a situation like this. I know the chances of it being used are slim to none, but when your main feed is all the way in Vienna and events there are dictating what happens, doomsday scenarios possibly happen. Unfortunately, that's what happened tonight.

in Julie Foudy: You Are ESPN’s Weakest Link, Goodbye! on EPL Talk
You gotta stop the extra early morning postings...they make no sense.
If you follow the international scene long enough, you know when push comes to shove that Henry steps up for country.
I don't think any of us though realized this team was just that old, to the point it borderlined on sad.
I haven't minded Fowdy at all. Actually the more over the top hate (seems to me like these people want the gig themselves...not going to happen people) Fowdy gets, the more I want ESPN to keep her center camera.

in ESPN Deserves Praise For Excellent Champions League Coverage on EPL Talk
Actually Lou, the ESPN2 replay from all I gathered on Wednesday was not scheduled but it was thrown together at the very last second (very similar to the replay for the Istanbul Final).
That aside, anyone who bitches about cutting time ON A REPLAY is only crying over spilled milk as far as I'm concerned. With TIVO, Slingboxes, and even a good old fashion VCRs (or hell the Setanta Sports replay), there were plenty of opportunities to watch this game live. If you didn't, sorry but that's your fault.
Call me a prick, call me an a-hole quite frankly I don't care. I've been called worst before and I'm sure I will in the future. It was YOUR stupidity you didn't catch the entire match, not ESPN's. Get over yourselves.

You guys have to be kidding me.
Their live broadcast was perfectly acceptable. ESPN DID NOT have to replay the game on ESPN2 as they did, all they had to do is replay the game on ESPN Classic as is their custom.
It seems to me like you guys can't think of anything else to complain about and now are just nitpicking for the sake of complaining. Get over it.
Hell ESPN didn't even have to replay the game on ESPN Classic. You spoiled lot.

in Champions League Final Press Coverage Is Too Excessive on EPL Talk
When you put it into context, 62 articles divided by 13 sources averages less than 2.5 articles per source per day. Each source is going to have it's own slant.
Personally I think this is a whole 'much adu about nothing'. When you are pulling RSS stories from so many different sources, the same story being pounded into the ground is bound to happen.

Dave M,
The last I knew, Kartik was a Manchester City supporter. For all I know I could very well be the only Chelsea supporter who has posted on this thread (I can't speak for anyone else).
However I have to admit that I do find it amusing that people say that 'Chelsea deserve nothing this year'. Just personal humor for me is all.
And yes the exodus may happen, but the reality is this Chelsea squad has gotten pretty stale and needs to be freshened up.

Chris, even if Chelsea draw v Newcastle United, the title will still be up for grabs on the final day of the season.
Granted yes that would mean Chelsea would have to beat Bolton (which has been a bit of a bogey side at Stamford Bridge for Chelsea) and Manchester United would have to lose at Wigan, but it's still possible. It's more nearly impossible than possible, but hell anything can happen on the final day of the season.

in Setanta Sports Now Available on GEK TV: New IPTV Network on EPL Talk
I cannot fault GEK for this.
I think GEK is thinking they can expand their purchasing base by offering Setanta in hopes that people aren't bitter about ITVN will sign up. The problem is I think there are so many people who are bitter about ITVN that they will not give GEK a chance.
Setanta is I think trying to provide yet another stop-gap which tells me how much work they have to do in order to get on Cable.
I also wonder how long it will be before GEK has to stop showing Southern Hemisphere rugby union? Granted that's not a problem for those who want to see soccer only, but it only goes to the problem with using IPTV at present.

in Nightmare Saturday for Chelsea, UEFA Cup Spot Contenders on EPL Talk
Michael,
How many times have we had this discussion on AIM? Sixth and Seventh DO NOT get a UEFA Cup spot...only if the Carling Cup or the FA Cup finalists aren't already in an European place do Sixth or Seventh get those places. Just because you think it is automatic because recent history seems to make it out that way, it isn't the case. Only fifth place is guaranteed an UEFA Cup position along with the League Cup winner and a FA Cup finalist (The runner-up can get into the UEFA Cup if the FA Cup winner is already playing in either the Champions League or UEFA Cup the following season).
Another reality I think people are forgetting about is Portsmouth could finish sixth or seventh, and not get into the UEFA Cup next season if they do not win the FA Cup. Their failure to apply for the Intertoto Cup sees to that.
Everton, Aston Villa, Blackburn Rovers and Manchester City could very well be thankful they applied for the Intertoto Cup. While it would appear that Everton are secure in fifth, that still isn't the case. Sixth place then still isn't guaranteed a UEFA Cup place through the UEFA Fair Play Table meaning it appears the race for sixth is the race for the Intertoto Cup.
I am so glad that competition (Intertoto Cup) is going away soon.

Chris,
Due to America 'springing forward' this weekend, we will be only 4 hours behind the UK for the Sunday games. Even I forgot it until we got an email at work about it.
Just wanted to give a heads up to you.

Chris,
Seems like you need Setanta Broadband that way you would be covered on all angles. A hospital with FSC, how did you come across that? But yes any sanity break from the reality of being stuck in the closest thing to hell is always a bonus. Being stuck in the hospital with my dad over November and December, I know just being the visitor is hell but it is worse on the one involved.
As with Eduardo, your health comes first. Take all the time you need and get well soon. The last thing you need is your own health taking the nosedive like Newcastle United and Reading.
Again, all the best on a full and speedy recovery. No one deserves it.
