It's actually pretty easy : if you've got an RSS feed for the users' comment, then, you've got a subscription system that supports all the one you mentionned and that has a cool API for anyon to build additional channels that can be used (iPhone App, Air Application... etc)

As far as I remember (we switched to ejabberd since...) Openfire didn't allow to connect several components with the same JID... so I guess the answer is no here.

We love your idea of having user actually connecting to your own server, and that's the way we do it at Notifixious!
Anywy, you're right it's kind of sad to see XMPP trashed for "personnal" -if not "internal" reasons! But that also decreases the pressure on XMPP and lets us do better things with it!

What "scared" us most is the fact that we could'nt find any big service that uses PubSub... hence, qe had doubts and questions bout scalability! Anyway, we ended up writing our own Pubsub component with light features and we're quite happy with it!

I used components as well for Notifixious, as clients, but also in the case of S2S communications.

Using components raises the problem of handling presence yourself (among others) but can prove to be very powerful, specially since components can 'intercept' messages addressed to jid@component.xmpp-server.tld!

I never tried Twiusted or wokkel though! How better are than than using an existing library like XMPP4R?

I am afraid that all technologies are always too slow to reach the "cruise speed" for their early workers/creators/adopters!
Also, it is clear that most technologies -like XMPP- have to wait for their respective markets to start blooming!

This is indeed an excellent news for all the start-up that are working in the "pushed web" area!

Concerning LibPurple, my feeling is that it's is somehow better to create a native C application than using the various wrappers. What do you think?
