in SNAPI Will Defeat OpenSocial in 2008 on AllFacebook
Nick, I think SNAP is the acronym for social network application platforms. So your term works. I think that your prediction is a safe bet. Just wondering when we'll see more robust documentation about bebo's stuff and what other networks might be integrating it.
so how soon before we seen SNML for dummies at amazon or fbml in 24 hours books?

So the question is: do we know if facebook is making their platform license completely free?

in Kindling This Blog on A VC
Fred. They have to charge, since blogs will eat up a large percentage of their data deal with Sprint for EVDO service.
Not sure why they didn't include wifi in it though. that would have added maybe $15 to their cost.
But in respect to charging for blogs, if it can make the blogger money (which they lose out on by not being able to show ads), then why not? Although federated is probably taking their cut along the way there too...
The price on this device will drop substantially i am guessing in the next 12 months. ($299, then 250, then settling in at $199). But its the fact that you could get tech books, and have them auto-update to new editions which intrigues me. Although I will likely miss being able to use a highlighter or write on the pages.

isn't that the point. the consumer does not want to be incumbered with this. this therefore should be disqualified as part of their model. The opposite has happened where they are attempting to impose something on the consumer he or she does not want. that is a model destined for failure. the notion that they HAVE TOO to cover their EVDO costs is flawed.

my good buddy Alex from scrapblog (who I think you've met) gets mentioned in it :-)

in Community Job Board (for employers and seekers) on Community Guy
Jake, neat site. you might want to tweak the job listings. the first company who posted doesn't have a clear link to their homepage, or their name for that matter (might have missed that). Other than that I think its a great idea. best of luck with it!

in Classmates.com Goes Public, Is Facebook Next? on AllFacebook
Nick,
There is a HUGE difference in value for these two companies. I mean classmates.com's traffic is probably around 1% of facebook's. Classmates may have 50mil registered, but I for one have not gone back to that site since 1997 when I first signed up. 10 years with no activity from some of their members. Not to mention their 1 million paid subscribers are probably over inflated, and not generating near facebooks 120Mil+ in yearly revenue. classmates.com missed the boat here.

in Robert Scoble Has Too Many Friends on AllFacebook
i know you can set preferences on your news feed to see less of some people, but the limit is 30 people.
i've got 288 friends, 95% of whom i've met in person the rest i have either conversed with via email or chat. The more people you add to your friend pool, the less value the word friend has. to me a friend is someone with a 2 way connection, not a one way. If you want one way, just stalk someone on twitter.

Nick,
my best guess its more about amassing listeners to his stuff, as there is no way he has an inkling of an idea who half of those people are.
the question arises then about what types of connections people are making on facebook. are they personal (what it was originally all about) or are they impersonal (i've got 450,000 friends on myspace).

in The Lack of a Golden App on AllFacebook
I think we'll definitely see stuff that leverages your social capital (your friends) to benefit both you and them. I don't see mybloglog being a good choice for this, for privacy reasons, and the fact that it might not work.
but i can guarantee that we will see some very compelling apps that enhance the user experience and the utility of facebook immensely. everything you've seen so far has taken less than 2 months to build, so we'll see more complex stuff as time goes by.
