Can't say I've heard people say see-lob or bee-lob before. Just clobs and blobs. We obvious travel in different circles :)

SQL: I hear this alot when speaking to people from the USA . Most european people I deal with say S-Q-L. Not sure if that indicates a trend, or my limited exposure.

Linux: I call it Lie-nux because I prefer the sound. I know it's wrong but I think Lyn-ux sounds cheap and kinda-wrong. Just my preference.

I guess you just have to pick the one you like and keep an eye open for people who look confused :)

I still feel it's good to have as at least it keeps a little common ground between the engines. It's good to know that I can, and do, write queries against a number of different engines. I have to use different techniques for all of them, but I can do it.

Currently I have to help people write SQL against a Nucleus data warehouse. I've never even logged on to one. The reason I can provide some level of help is that both Oracle and Nucleus have some adherence to the SQL standard.

Just a thought :)

One of my friends recently returned from Korea, where he was visiting his wife's parents. He brought back some dog meat as a present for his brother. Sounds nasty to UK ears, but it's normal in Korea. Apparently it tasted real good. I'm a vegetarian so I guess I'll pass :)

The story goes that when Britney Spears first came to the UK she couldn't believe we had our own currency and didn't use US dollars. If that's true...
