in Chuck Renewed, Sarah Connor Chronicles Gets Canned on /Film
It was announced in March (see my link above) that the show has been renewed for *two* new seasons :)

Perhaps you should actually give it a chance? :P Given that many (myself included) consider it among the best television dramas ever made, there's probably *something* worthwhile about it ;)

I agree it may not make the most sense given what we know from the movies, but as a sort of alternate universe Terminator story I thought it did pretty well.

That wasn't the After Dark ;) This was recorded before the show proper last Monday--

Delta Assault Yea, true... I guess it'd be cool to get the After After Dark on mp3. Ya know, just cause Rian Johnson actually said hi to me!

in Chris Hemsworth is Thor on /Film
Branagh is good, but given that the only thing I've seen him in featured a not so great performance, how am I supposed to get excited by this actor? Rewatch the opening scene at some point, he does not exude ANY of the emotions one would expect of a man put in his position.

Dutch_Masta Saw Star Trek twice and this "bad performance" is new to me. I mean, seriously, how can you look at the campy dialogue and acting throughout Star Trek and call that the "one" bad performance in the flick? I enjoyed ST both times by the way.

Looking forward to Thor though. I'm still curious how it will all Mesh with the realism presented in Iron Man, and the realism through Science presented in the Hulk. I want the Avengers flick!

Given that his terrible performance stood out even more the second time watching Trek, there goes any bit of excitement I had for Thor...

jason B it's quite naive of you to dismiss a new actor based off of a 3 1/2 minute performance (which i found no problem with at all - in fact, what specifically did he do that turned you off?). consider hayden christenson's role in star wars compared to shattered glass: absolute proof the kid can act. besides, if you were truly bothered by his turn in trek, then equal -if not all - blame should be placed on jj.

what should really worry you about thor, is the level of marvel's involvement. after the wolverine origins abortion, and several other insane moves they have made with their film division, i feel they could do the most harm.

with branagh at the helm, i feel good about this one, let's just hope for a solid script. a LOTR meets the superhero/comic genre would be a breath of newness into the very repetitive formula we are seeing lately.
MasterCobra Fuk u sideways c|_|nt! ... u knw jack sh1t abt acting dude ... go back to your hole and play with yourself!

I agree with you on Babel. I don't think the film ultimately worked, but I do consider her storyline as one of the bright spots--

He's one of my favorite authors, so DO give him a shot :) Start with Norwegian Wood, then check out Hard Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World, and The Wind Up Bird Chronicle.

in Live-Action Blood: The Last Vampire Coming to the U.S. via Sony, New Trailer is a Must Watch on /Film
You don't think with the rise of digital effects that a *good* live action anime adaptation could happen? I would argue that Ryuhei Kitamura's Azumi was a pretty successful adaptation (that didn't need to rely on special effects), and Casshern was a good looking adaptation only hampered by a terrible script. I think even Speed Racer could count as a good adaptation that successfully recaptured the campy tone of the original, while still being entertaining.

Hell, technically OIdboy was an adaptation of a manga :P

Empire of the Wolf is a crime film starring Jean Reno, Brotherhood of the Wolf is an earlier film helmed by Christophe Gans (who went on to make Silent Hill).

I liked Blood+, but you'd be hard pressed to find much depth in the original Blood's 50 min runtime.

in James Gunn’s Greatest Horror Tale Yet: Working for Microsoft on /Film
That's not the point I was making at all David. My point was if Microsoft is going to hire directors of this caliber, then they should expect that the content may be a bit more risque than their usual stuff.

I'm not calling for Hostel level brutality for every horror film, but hiring these guys to do work under sub-PG-13 conditions seems sort of oblivious.

David Having dealt with Microsoft on an entertainment deal, they're nothing if not clear about what they expect for content. I would bet my left pinky that the directors were given very specific direction about content restrictions/limitations. If a director has a problem with those restrictions, I tend to view that as a limitation on the director's talent -- and not a problem with the folks funding his or her work. It's just one of the many kinds of practical restrictions that actually help artists find their real voice, in my view.

in Warner Bros. Launches Red2Blu Program, Offers Blu-Ray Copies of HD-DVDs You Own (For a Small Fee) on /Film
Good god, did you buy the entire library of HD-DVDs? :P I see your point. I have tons of HD-DVDs as well, the players will still be easy to find for the next few years, and they're still making hybrid Bluray/HD-DVD drives for PCs. I got many HD-DVDs for under $10, not to mention those that I got for free.

in Joss Whedon on Dollhouse’s Survival for a Second Season on /Film
Given the context of that quote, yes I mean ratings. By all accounts the outlook is worse for Terminator when it comes to cancellation. I enjoy both shows, so I'm not taking pleasure in saying that.
Xono Dollhouse did not have better ratings than Terminator it generally trailed behind TSSC in its run though TSSC wasn't exactly fairing all that well either.

Also your statement that TSSC is cancelled is for now baseless not to mention the fact that if were taking rumors into account Fox loves TSSC but just cant get the ratings higher.

So if Fox loves TSSC and Dollhouse a poor show by all accounts which one is going to get canceled hmm let me see ??

It seems like you have a big problem with what we in the "biz" call facts. Censorship of the media sure has worked out well for everyone else that has adopted it...

Totally agree, though it's hard to convince people to watch that show when they have to sit through the terrible pilot. Still, I appreciate the ideas and execution of the show. It asks some interesting questions, which was what I always loved best about the Terminator series (in addition to ass kicking).
