in Outrage!! on A Passion For 'Puters
Actually, (and don't throw eggs at me) I'm not going to flame Mancow on this one. Was what he said way over the top, completely inaccurate, and totally irresponsible? Yep. Absolutely. Is what he said exactly what he's paid to do? Yep. Absolutely. Here we are talking about his show on a forum that otherwise would never even dream of posting a "..I heard on Mancow this morning.." type of gossip. He's a shock jock and gets paid by having listeners for his sponsors. He got you to listen much longer than you would have otherwise, and probably got a few ad spots in there along the way. He did his job, and did it quite successfully from what it appears.

in Social networking is educational! on A Passion For 'Puters
AMEN!!! Actually, many teachers that I know (including myself) are already fans of using social networking sites (MySpace, Facebook, Ning and the link) and interactive communication software such as wikis and blogs as an educational vehicle, but it's the administration that often throws up the road block to such things. :(

I can't believe you gave into his pressure on the steak and kidney pie front. Blech! :P You DO know what the kidney does, right? ;)
I'm sorry I wasn't more diligent about reading these past weeks, and it looks like you had a great time in Jamaica. I promise to be a more frequent reader in the future. :)

Video conferencing rocks! There's so much lost in a conversation when you can't see body language or expressions.

in 3. Facebook/MySpace on A Passion For 'Puters
The "Events" application in Facebook would seem to be extremely useful for a Library or any other business/organization. It wouldn't be a bad idea for the Science Dept here at JCCC to create an account for just such a reason. We have lots of events that go largely unnoticed because of the lack of publicity on media that students are likely to consume.

Awesome pics! We should have a slide-show party sometime soon so you can show off all your pics to us. :D

in Library 2.0 debate on A Passion For 'Puters
I know your focus is on Libraries, specifically, but this concept of reaching your target audience via Web2.0 methodologies is becoming critical for all manner of organizations. Its true for public libraries of course, but its equally true for colleges, local governments, and its extremely important for businesses. Viral distribution of information has been helping MANY smaller companies and organization reach a huge audience that normally wouldn't have ever known about them. Unfortunately, JCCC hasn't really figured out that idea yet. They've bought a 2nd Life island, but they have no idea what to do about it, and they have no other presence other than our crappy website. Does the MRRL provide a weekly/monthly video newsletter or other type of podcast/YouTube-style of content?

Hurray!! :D If its written well, I think you'll find the subject extremely interesting. Just have a bottle of whiskey and someone to debate/discuss things with handy as you read. The whiskey will help you get your mind twisted in the right way for space-time to make sense, and the discussion partner will help straighten you out again. :P Trust me, I've been down this road.
