Nice pplants. Why not take up growing your own veggies and herbs?

John Aravosis I do have herbs, just didn't show them. Veggies, I'm not too sure about - other than tomatoes, have them growing too. Not sure what else I can grow, veggie wise, that wont' take up too much room.

The dude facing the tank dies a few seconds after this shot was taken when he gets ran over by tank. While good theatre as a still shot, but ignores the fact that dude vs tank the tank wins.

in U.S. Representative Michelle Bachmann wants a revolution on AMERICAblog
While I disagree with the Representative M. any american has the right to verbally advocate the violent overthrow of the US government. This was established by a Supreme Court Case against the US Communist Party in the 1950;s. The law you cited is void.

in If protectionism is crack, what's easy credit? on AMERICAblog
The Dems have no spin and will cave in on "protectionism." maybe we did the wrong thing by voting the Dems in. At least the Repubs would have made things even worse and would have triggered a revolution. The Dems in charge we will just muddle thru

example Republicans are idiots. I don't just mean on policy I mean on *POLITICS* I mean, how on earth is their "Fuck American car companies!" campaign from last month supposed to help them politically, let alone from a policy perspective. Sensable people can see the downsides of protectionism but realize that it might help get the bill passed and we're all better off.

But the republicans are now ranting and raving about wanting to screw the American worker! It's like they're TRYING to commit suicide as a party!

The only problem is they may take the country down win their insanity, and then of course they hope people will blame the democrats and they'll be swept into power like in '94. They're basically insane.
lucky hussein no way I could not vote for obama, on the hopes of a revolution..

Labor is the source of all wealth.
When you cut your labor force you save wages in the short run, but in the long run you cut future income (and this future income is more than the wages you have cut)

in The Senate is the center of the drama on AMERICAblog
The Dems in th Senate can change the rules to make a fillbuster end at a vote of 55 senators or simple majority. They could at least threaten to do this like the Repubs did to get the Dems to cave form 2004-06.

HarpoSnarx Oh the friggin irony - remember all that hand wringing about the Goopers abolishing the filiballbuster on our side?

We never used it anyway. So why don't the Dims abolish it now?

Yes your answer to that question may include the words, limp, flaccid, craven, etc.

in Why is Congress ignoring "rate jacking" with credit cards? on AMERICAblog
Too bad Americans won't go on a credit payment strike and refuse to pay. If its causes everyone to have bad credit who cares, if everyone's credit is trashed who are they going to lend to?

in Half of mortgage modifications re-defaulting within 6 months on AMERICAblog
The only way out is to declare a good olde fashion biblical Jubalee! That is cancel all debts for everyone, free the captives, and redisribute the land (which today I envision to be: what ever home your living in is now yours and all excess homes to be given by lottery to the homeless.

in Is it ever okay for the cops to shoot violent protesters? on AMERICAblog
No shooting just to protect property or out of fear. I thought Greece had pretty effective Riot police like most Euro countries?

in There’s an upside to economic disaster on the Jesus Manifesto
How about a cancellation of all Debts, release of prisoners, and abolition of all existing mortages (yes I know this is covered by the first but it needs to emphaized), that is what ever your living in is yours. All empty homes and apartments are to distributed by lot to the homeless.

Maria Kirby May I remind you that the year of Jubilee was also a year of fasting, and using up leftovers? Have you ever tried using up everything in your cupboard, freezer, refrigerator before going out and buying something new? How much of your accumulation would/could you give away to friends and family as Xmas or birthday gifts?

How many Christians have been generous enough to have loaned someone money, that they could even cancel a debt?

in Can Buddhism become American? on In Pursuit of Mysteries
the last sentence should have read "not to look to the light of a teacher."

in Can Buddhism become American? on In Pursuit of Mysteries
I believe the whole reliance on a teacher is over rated and there have been mahayana buddhist lay led movements which are based on the teachings and not the teacher. The Buddhas last teaching before his paranirvana was to be a light unto oneself and to look to the light of a teacher.

in Amusing Domain Names on In Pursuit of Mysteries
This reminded me of a poem I wrote many years ago for Cybersangha:

IN THE BELLY OF THE BEAST
(a call for an enraged bodhisattva buddhism)

What strange karma has led
to my rebirth in this materialist hell?
Returning to consciousness,
the truth of suffering
became crystal clear.
Through a vast infinity of beginningless suffering:
birth, illness, aging, death and rebirth.
I have been confronted in this life
that I live in the belly of the beast.
Of all places within the six worlds,
I find myself living in the land of Mara.
An international vampire called Amerika
lives through the drinking of the life of nations.
Amerika,
with its numerous hydra-heads
lash out at the nations
and drinks in their wealth,
destroying all who stands in its way.
Amerika is a nation devoted to Mara;
it glorifies ignorance, hatred and greed.
Amerika is drunk from drinking in the wealth of the world
and it excretes its poisonous wastes;
humanlife is now in danger.
Amerika,
you are a malignant cancer upon the face of Gaia.
Amerika,
you are a false view
and your ideologists the gate keepers to hell.
Amerika,
you find your hands dripping with the blood of the poor,
while proclaiming your innocence.
All the while seeking new horrors to commit.
I do find myself living in interesting times;
the time of the beast.
My greatest desire
is to take the sword of wisdom,
to wield prajna,
and disembowel the beast from within
(even if it would send me to hell)
to free the many beings trapped inside.
I feel there are numerous other enlightening beings
taking birth in this land
in this time,
all wielding the sword of wisdom.
The day of liberation is at hand.
Do something!

I remember seeing pictures in Shambala Sun (then a newspaper) of his outdoor, open air cremation. I believe it was in Vermont. They had built a large and what looked to be a six foot high funerla pyre out of logs, covered with flowers. They had him siting up in a chair wearing a business suit, sash and flowers. in the midst of it all. He went up pretty fast. I dont think it was legal but no one asked permission they just did it.

in Nonviolence and the Dharma on In Pursuit of Mysteries
There is a long history of Buddhist military traditions especially amongst the Tibetans and the Japanese to consider in asking oneself about the question of violens and buddhism. Most of these warriors took similar vows. Monastaries in Japan raised private armies and battled one another. Japanese peasants using Jodo Shinshe as an ideology defeated the SAmari and the armed monks during the Ikko rebellions.

I think intent is the real parft of the vows. One does not intend to kill when one vows, but sometimes due to past negative karma/wyrd (yours or your attackers) it is unaviodable.

in E-sangha and Control Freaks on In Pursuit of Mysteries
I took a look at Esangha a while back and found it lacking since it practically ignores Pure Land Buddhism. It continues the Western Buddhists general distain/disregard for a practice based on the working classes of the Buddhist world.

basking in the unhindered light,
