My my, it is interesting that a man like Rupert Murdoch can come from another country (Australia) with gobs of money and ill intent and reek havoc by hiring american right wing bullies like O'Reilly and creating the Fox 'News' group just in time for the 2000 election. While O'Reilly is an idiot, Murdoch is not. As a good friend of the Bush family, his position in the american news market follows the rise of the Bush administration. Fox is number one in FEAR politics. Let me suggest going for the top dog at this juncture, Murdoch. We need to start a grass root effort to make the folks who watch Fox understand who owns and controls Fox media. It's not americans, it's an australian with lots of money and lots of interest financially in the success of Bush & Co.

Self-improvement is such a crock. Do what I do, tell everyone at the lunch table, while you're dutifully scarfing down a salad, that you are really working to lose some of your big fat ass.

Then go home and pile fat-free frozen yogurt in a bowl, pour caramel sauce on, sprinkle with cashews and----voila' -- instant happiness.

I'm old. I need all the instant gratification I can get.

Told myself I'd get back into those clothes some day. Yeah, right. Now I am a realist 'cause I'm at the age where being skinny isn't as important as being healthy enough to live longer. Screw it.

Living longer. That's my first priority. hahahaha Whatchoo see is whatchoo get. If people don't like my size, that's their problem, not mine.

Wow, interesting stuff. KD, I haven't been around for a couple days, haven't gone out to the blog neighborhoods so didn't know about your awful owie. Bad stuff. Hope it's better by now.

Glad to hear vicodin is helping. Our hospital clinics don't use the "real" vicodin (whatever that is), but there's so many generics I don't really understand what the deal is. I use the generic called hydrocodone. They're so pissy scared everyone will become addicts (well, it IS a narcotic) I can only get a month's supply at a time. And only supposed to take two a day. Doesn't do squat for me. Unless I take the "two a day" all at once and sneak in one more in the evening if I have to.

Our clinics and the hospital itself does not prescribe oxycontin for any reason, in fact, the two hospital outpatient pharmacies don't even carry it. It's too dangerous. And, sorry, but I can't imagine a physician prescribing this for a broken ankle !!!!

Neurontin is a great med for neuropathic pain, such as I have. It also has the great quality of not being addictive and can be taken for long-term use. It relieves the stinkin' pain in my leg which are the nerves being assaulted by the stinkin' spurs on the spinal discs. So something good is happening anyway. Thank the goddess for small favors.

But as far as vicodin, AKA hydrocodone, is concerned, I might as well be swallowing a sugar pill. Poopie.

You guys just be careful out there, OK? I may get a little pissed at the specialists at my hospital but I suppose their caution is better than getting hurt thru indifference. I trust the docs completely at my hospital, I love having the residents attending to me 'cause they are so gung-ho, but there's no danger 'cause their mentor and my staff doctor come in after the youngun's are thru with me, to check out what they've done or told me. Great system of double-checking.

Anyway, Questions, questions. You have every right to question the doctor if something doesn't sound kosher. . If they don't want to answer your questions, you should probably find a new doctor. If it's one thing I've learned since barging into the blog world, its that you guys are pretty darn savvy and smart. So don't take any sh*t from a mere doctor, OK?

Hmmm, depending on where my back stands on the hot-fire-knife-cracking-in-half pain, I take my two-a-day Vicodin all at once, makes me feel kind of nice. I like it.

But it in no way suppresses my appetite. Fact is, I feel so good I eat more.

I think you should pack an emergency stash in case this ever happens again..........box of crispy crackers, maybe some trail mix, a box of Pot-of-Gold trifle chocolates(NOT!), even some apples or something. Check the fruit for damage once in a while, though. Call it your survival kit. That's what I'd do.

I don't really remember back that far, but I think I was a Girl Scout at one time. Or a Campfire girl. Hell, who knows.

I am eternally grateful that when my youngest daughter & her family lived in Arizona I never had to hear of, or see, a wolf spider when I visited them. As Kelly said (btw, my daughter's name is Kelly, too, isn't that amazing?).....heart failure just seeing one.

Well anyway, she called me one morning to tell me the nightmare they went thru the night before. A wolf spider got into their house, my dipstick SIL told Kelly & the kids to go into the kitchen (farthest away from where the beast was).......and he actually killed the thing with a baseball bat!! He was such a baby about everything else, I was surprised at his "bravery".

Ummmm, I really shouldn't get on my soapbox, but everybody I know at the Humane Society agree that "An indoor cat is a safe cat". In fact, in cat seminars they provide for new cat parents, on care and stuff, it's one of the two most important factors in keeping a cat healthy and long-lived.

#1 of course, spay/neuter. Pet lives longer and stays healthier
#2 Keep cats indoors. They will live longer and definitely will stay healthier.

I spent nearly five hours this morning "discussing" the separation of church and state issue, a concept which several of the true-blue bible-thumpers could not get into their heads. Whining about taking God out of everything, our In God We Trust money, God Bless America song, and so on ad nauseam. They cannot understand what's wrong with prayer in school. It was sickening. I left. These kind of people are hopeless.

I have a "For Liberals Only" page started on my site, but haven't had a chance to mess much with it so far. I have tons of pictures, and great links I want to share.

just the fact that Earth Day has made it to most generic calendars is huge in a culture that continues to value immediate gratification over long term cause and effect. It would be a big mistake to dismiss the efforts it has taken us to come this far. But I didn't remember that today is the day and came to your site by links in search of info on sustainable house design. Yes, every day is Earth Day for me but I regret that I am often obliged to be compromised by the choices available to me. Each of us must be the grain of sand that tips the balance back to a healthy, loving and respectful planet.

Meatballs in a crockpot

meatball/meatloaf mix (beef/pork/veal)
handful of breadcrumbs
2 eggs
any Italian spices you like

Roll into balls and brown in olive oil.
Put in crockpot w/2 cans of any sauce you like!
Cook all day! They will be the best you have ever had!

A very romantic photo. I visited Prague many years ago when it was part of Czechoslovakia. I am sure that things have improved since then, but it is still a very beautiful city.
