in Buy me a glass of wine? on The Wine Conversation
I was there not long ago for a prosecco tasting, got a video ready to be posted in a few days. Thought the food was pretty good and the happy hour buffet a great deal!

in Can Red Wine Reduce Swine Flu Risk? on Another Wine Blog
Sounds like sound medical advice! I had to laugh when you mentioned the media frenzy. The Times (of London) reported that DOZENS of people were being tested around the world. Um... how many BILLIONS are there currently breathing my air???? LOL

in Another Wine Byte #10: For the Love of Parker? on Another Wine Blog
Call me crazy but whenever I see a Parker rating, I run a mile! Pity about the parkerization of wine, I agree with Alice Feiring. Parker's gargantuan influence over wine is just a manifestation of the typical consumers' laziness. "Tell me what to buy because I don't want to buy something I might not like." Ok, maybe his ratings could be used as advice but not the be all and end all. And if you agree with his palate, more power to you. Isn't the pleasure of wine the voyage of discovery? As a wineblogger, I don't expect everyone to agree with me and I don't always agree with other bloggers but isn't it nice to have the choice? That more than anything else is probably what all those PR flacks are worried about, I totally agree with you.

in Enough is Enough: a pricing rant on The Wine Conversation
Donaldson's views on passive drinking were in the Times this weekend, http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style...
what a crock! Trying to equate second hand smoke, which you may have no control over inhaling, with alcohol over which you do have control is ridiculous. Another example of the nanny state...grrrr....

I liked your video, Denise, I think you're rightt. But I think you're wrong about passive drinking. I think the expression is misleading, but Sir Liam's point is actually a very good one. See my vid.

Thea's Fabulous Barrel tasting tour--whaaaaa, I want to go! ;-)
Seriously, I have traveled back and forth London-SF ( and, unfortunately, not non-stop) on numerous occasions with up 4 bottles just wrapped up in newspaper and carefully arranged, and I've never had a broken bottle. I don't know if it helps or not but I always slap a couple of fragile stickers that the airline gives you on the suitcases. Good luck!

I thought those stickers just made the baggage handlers reenact the old Samsonite gorilla commercials. :)

I feel your pain, Ivan. When I was doing a sommelier course in Buenos Aires, Arg. I ran into the same problem. Funny how you think you know a second language and then, BAM, curveball comes your way. Great post.

in Anaba: Earth, Wind and Wine in My Glass on Another Wine Blog
I love the smell of earth, reminds me of playing in the garden when I was a kid and getting all dirty before dinner. I'm always up for comparing how the CA winemakers compare to the "motherland' so to speak. One thing I still haven't gotten used to is the "fruit bombiness" of those CA wines, though.

I had already finished it before I got another "dirt" story from a friend! One of her colleagues also loves the earth, and earth scents. The friend once received a gift from her husband (then boyfriend) of a set of little vials of dirt from all the places where they had vacationed together. To me that sounds like the most awesome and romantic gift EVER!

Great post! I love single malt whiskey. up to now Balvenie has been my favourite but we have Old Pulteney on the shelf and I may just have to give it a try the next time I go whiskey shopping - clean, salty and sherry = yum!

I follow a winery in Ramona, CA, on the outskirts of San Diego, that did a field trip to their winery with the local school, mostly 3rd and 4th graders. They blogged about it and it made me wish we had something like that when I was a kid. Check them out: http://eaglesnestwinery.ning.com/profiles/blogs...
