PatB: I disagree that regarding DeLong and S. Lowenthal what you saw or thought you saw was not what we got. They both claimed to be oriented towards the folk, but continually get "sweetheart" deals for the well-connected. Watching them at the Council meetings, one would think they were joined at the hip. How about the example of dear Suja (supposed friend of he gay community) who pushed through a city ordiance that prohibits anyone who had a sexual offense, even a minor one20 years ago, from living in Long Beach. (What a humanitarian)...DeLong got his bigest political supporter a half million dollar loan from the city at low interest. There's lots and lots more.

Miles: Since we in Long Beach have been already duped by Gary DeLong and Suja Lowenthal in to believing THEY would work across the isle, and add to this the fact that Gacia worked hard for Colonna (another hard-nose conservative) -- it is easy to see why we all may be a bit suspicious.

How were you duped by DeLong? You may not agree with his positions, but what you see is what you get.
DeLong and S. Lowenthal actually get positive things done, the other morons just pontificate on social issues.

One thing bothers me a great deal: The comment by Suja Lowenthal, who said, “I would love to see him as a colleague.” Since she herself ran as a progressive, and then turned to be the darling of the Chamber of Commerce, and aboandoned any claim to the term progressive, I wonder what kind of progressive Garcia might be. I hope not another wolf in sheep's clothing.

Is anyone surprised? Not me. I also predict that the City Council will ignore this. After all, they too seem to benefit from these insider deals. I hope I am wrong and pleasantly surprised, but I doubt it. They are good at ignoring what they don't want to see.

Luke, (#61) give it a rest. You seem blinded by your unfailing support for Suja, and your game seems to be "Kill the Messenger." If you can't argue on the issue, you use insults. Not nice! The District has been the one place we have been able to get good investigative reporting on the Queen Mary, Richardson, the Home Depot affair, and other breaches of support for the public interest. I am only sorry that Suja's real character did not become clear to many of you before this--before and without these sad events.

Luke, The accepted standard in jounalism is to protect the anonymity of sources. It is done by the LA Times, the Washington Post, the New York Times, and all crdible newpapers. Your attack on Mr. Wielenga is not only unjustified it is ignorant of what are standard and accepted practices in the industry.

And speaking of name recognition--it is a fact that the Lowenthal name got her elected. In my opinion she misused the Lowenthal name. She promised to be an advocate for the community, but what we got under the smooth talking veneer, was a manipulative politican, a supporter of the developers and a proponent of the Long Beach power structure.

I understand that questions regarding extra-marital relationships make many people uncomforable--HOWEVER, questions about possible conflict of interest (regardless of the nature of the realtionship) must always be in order for the public to have confidence in their public officials. (I don't see that she denied that she had these intimate relationships--she only denied that she was influenced.)
I believe the article to be entirley within the bounds of good journalism.

Did DeLong have any role (other than moving the item at Council because it was a 3rd District business) in the Legend's loan? No. It sounds to me like you just don't like Gene Rotondo and/or Legends.
It is true that Suja Lowenthal and Gary DeLong appear to have the most common sense on the Council - no wonder they appear to be "joined at the hip". They are simply the most rationale, and the ones least interested in awarding any special interest groups.
